this is probably a stupid question

Hey guys/gals -

I was just wondering about the hood of MINIs. I've noticed in pics there's a little hole in the hood of a lot of them, but not in some of them - is this a model year difference or something? I'm just curious. I figured this maybe should go here in the "1st Gear" category since it's probably a newbie question, but feel free to move it.

And I'm ordering my MINI tonight! I decided on Hyper Blue with white roof/mirrors and bonnet stripes

Thanks everyone!

Katherine

There are NO stupid questions. All questions welcome

The little hole lets the bugs out at night that get sucked in from the inlets down low, especially on hot summer nights

(the boring answer is that it lets air flow over the intercooler. Moving air is always cooler than static air so the engine will make more power because colder air is denser air and gives more oomph)

Oooohhhkaaaayyyy.

The hole is an air scoop, for the intercooler on the Mini Cooper S.

Haha, ok, thanks guys! I got it I hadn't even been looking at the MCS because I knew I couldn't afford it - I guess that's why I didn't realize.

If you look up "intercooler" on wikipedia.com, there is a picture of the MCS's innards.
