New MCS
New MCS
I just brought a new Silver and Black MCS home last week and have now put 277 miles on it. This was mostly over a curvy, slightly hilly, country road. I believe I have drove it reasonably, only exceeded 4500 rpm a few times, and when I filled it with 91 octane premium at the local Safeway store it got 22.75 miles per gallon. Was I wrong to think it would do better than that? I'm happy with the performance, both handling and power, just thought it would get a little better mileage. Maybe after it's broken in it'll do better.
congrats on the MCS, Lynnb.
Hang in there. The mileage ought to get better as you approach a couple of thousand miles. My '03 MCS gets about 21-24mpg with urban driving. On the interstate I see it rise to 34 mpg. My measurements are based on the trip computer, though, and I've never cared to compare the computer to manual math during fill-ups. I've had other new cars with noticeable gas mileage improvements after 2-3K.

Traversed the North Carolina portion of the Blue Ridge Parkway this past weekend to get the total mileage up to 1120 miles (almost to 1250!) and got 32.2 mpg according to the computer and 31.5 figuring manually. Of course, on the Parkway it's best not to exceed that 45 mph posted limit!
The aggressive gearing in the MINI is not designed for outstanding gas mileage but for quick, spirited motoring!

be patient. post breakin will show better mileage
For me post breakin meant learning how to keep the toes on my right foot from being on the floor. Still learning, but MPG is getting better.
