Dragon?

Being a new MINI owner (i should say waiting for delivery) I have been lurking around the site learning all sorts MINI nomenclature (06 MC HB CVT UJ).
But one thing I have not been able to decipher is this:
I know that the 'Dragon' is a road rally type event. But where does the name signify? Yes I have an enquirering mind .

Thanks to every one on this great site....

BTW, prior to this the last car I owned from England was a 59 bugeye.

The section of hwy 129 in North Carolina near Deals Gap is 11 miles long and has 318 turns. You can learn more about the Dragon by clicking here. Another great near by drive is the Cherohala Skyway.

Dragon? Eh, just some narrow road with a few turns in it. No civilization to speak of, no malls, restaurants, your cell fone doesnt work... no reason to bother with it, take the highway instead.

And some of the most fun you will ever have on wheels.

Well, it's actually 318 turns, and depending on who you ask, it's 11 miles or it's 11.8 miles... but either way, that's an average of to 26.9 to 28.9 turns per mile!

So I can't read either .

That's awsome. I hope to get my MINI on Moday or Tuesday and then see what crooked roads around here I had forgotten about

Tanx.

Greatbear,

Your sarcasm is showing!

I especially like the last line!

I grew up in the west and the Dragon reminds me of the canyon roads around Salt Lake City. Three differences that I observed:
1. On canyon roads you are always going up in elevation (at steeper angles than the Dragon) going in, reach the top, and you're always going down in elevation. While the Dragon is mostly increasing in elevation going in (towards Fontana), it mixes it up a bit.
2. Less law enforcement on the Dragon. When I was there they weren't
3. Drivers on the Dragon have better road ethics (for the most part, there are bad apples.) Anyone crossing the yellow line is frowned upon.
