Whassup!
Whassup!
Hey guys and gals... just got Nemo on March 31st. (2006 MCSC Hot Orange/Black, loaded) He's my FIRST non-Japanese car, which has taken some time to get use to. Nemo and I live in Atlanta, GA on the West Side (Marietta/Smyrna). West-Si-eeed!
The hardest thing to get use to is the Navi system. My last car, Infiniti FX45, and my partner's Acura TL have GREAT systems, and compared to Nemo's, they blow it away. I almost feel like I just bought Fisher-Price's "My first Navigation System." Even a Honda Civic has touchscreen and voice activation. Nemo just has this one annoying little jog **** and doesn't even have a day/night feature. That sucker is bright when the sun goes down, and it's very confusing that it can't tell you what street you're driving on unless you use Split-Screen. The bar at the bottom of the screen (that shows outside temp) is kinda wasted since it doesn't tell you the street name. (Ok so I'm REALLY bad with directions! Hey, Atlanta has 14 different Peachtree Streets!)
But I gotta say, I LOVE this little car! The handling kicks major tail, and the fully-automatic top w/remote is so freakin' cool. Some parts do feel cheap, like the arm rest (that thing's gonna break, I know it) and the glove box door, but for the most part that's a solid little car. So far I've only had to get the back seat lock replaced because it wouldn't release, and I've noticed those little "lumps" in the passenger seat which I think are the airbag sensors. To me that's not a big deal since it only took 5 weeks to make the car AND get it here.
You guys are totally right though... I can't wait to MOD him! MINI is like a cult... you get sucked into it. I'm completely sunburned from never wanting to put the top down. But a Farmer's Tan fits right in down here in the South, [y'all].
The one subject that really makes me salivate is GADGETS! The more toys you can pack on a car, the better. But where do ya put the switches in this little car?!? There's no room left!
Anyway, from reading the posts, this sounds like a great community and I can't wait to learn more about these cool little cars. Thanks for all the great posts!
Oh, and for fun, I made a goofy little website to show Nemo to my friends who don't live here. Check it out!

Great little web site. Besides the MINI being the start of the show, I like the seagulls, "Mine, mine, mine, mine...." Also love the scrapbook, the captions, the white borders, the accents etc. are just like a scrapbook. I give you an "A+"
So are you a web designer in real life?
Enjoy your MINI

Thanks so much for the compliments! I thought the website should be as fun as the car itself! If only I could get Ellen DeGeneres (as Dory) to do the voice for my navigation system... how fun would that be?!? I'd laugh so hard I'd miss every turn.
Never really done any web stuff professionally... just play around here and there for friends and family. The sites are actually really easy to make using a program on my Mac called iWeb. It's almost as easy as click and drag!
I retired from Home Depot on March 1st after 13 years (at age 34) but I continue to do voiceovers for various companies, and DJ a little on the side. Most of my work is doing those annoying automated menus where you call in and get a million different options to choose from (and none of them are the right one!) I swear sometimes I'll call a company that uses my voice, I'll get stuck in one of those 15 minute 'informational' messages, and I sit there and cuss myself out thinking "who IS this idiot?? Oh, it's me."
So Nemo was my retirement present to myself. The best thing about being retired at age 34? More time to DRIVE my MINI!! I tell ya, the more I'm in it, the more I love it!
Thanks again!!
