It's a BMW Thing. Apparently they wanted to set themselves apart or somethin like that. However - in all the stuff I've seen from them it's definitely "MINI" and not "Mini".

Andy's right on that one. When BMW took over the Rover Group which was the last manufacturer of the Mini name, BMW wanted to set themselves apart from what was already produced, and come out with something newer and their own. Thus capitalizing the letters of the MINI name with the introduction of the new style. Now it's their (BMW's) version of the spelling and their version of the newer styling of the MINI. Must be a domination thing.
Cheers,

Simple recipe for enjoyment: Take 1 Mini. Add 6 gears. Drop in 1 supercharger. A dash of 91 octane. A sprinkle of style. And finally add 1 MadMan. Bake pavement and tires to taste. Recipe produces 1 Mini Cooper'S' and full satisfaction. Motor On!!

Isn't MINI now the make name and one, cooper, and cooper s the model designation? Where as previously Austin, Morris, Rover etc. were the make of the car and Mini the model with the engine modifications jobed out to John Cooper.

Not sure but thats how I understood it to be

It's MINI because it's bigger... that and they didn't want people calling it The New Mini for 5 years in a row...

But ya, there's a MINI One, MINI Cooper, and a MINI Cooper S, so i guess saying that we own MINIs is like saying we own Saturns.. the car make w/no designation of which model, but i'm splitting hairs again...
