Does the MINI motor use a throttle body?
I was reading some posts here and it appears the MINI uses a throtlle body injection system but I thought for sure I saw individual injectors. Do I misunderstand the whole setup? If the MINI uses throttle body, doesn't this make it harder to get it through the smog requirements?
Virtually all fuel injected cars have a throttle body, regardless of the type
of injection used. The throttle body houses the butterfly valve to control
the air intake (and is electrically controlled on the MINI). Fuel injection is,
I believe, into the intake manifold, and not direct injection (into the
cylinders).

Valvetronic varies the timing and the lift of the intake valves. The Valvetronic system has a conventional intake cam, but it also uses a secondary eccentric shaft with a series of levers and roller followers, activated by a stepper motor. Based on signals formerly taken mechanically from the accelerator pedal, the stepper motor changes the phase of the eccentric cam, modifying the action of the intake valves.

TBI-Throttle Body Injection, the injector(s) is located in a central throttle body.
MPFI-Multiport Fuel Injection, multiple injectors usually but not always one per cylinder located along a fuel rail.
DFI-Direct Fuel Injection,Each cylinder has it's own injector firing directly into the cylinder.
