"On Order" Question/Support
"On Order" Question/Support
How long does a car usually stay "On Order"?
I've had my production number for about 10 days now, but both the owners' lounge and the 1-866 number doesn't tell me a production schedule. When I last spoke with my MA, he said that they expected to have the vehicle the last week of April (which is difficult for me to believe right now). Anyway, I'm just seeking other people's experiences with this.

If you are ordering from a WA based dealer, I doubt you would get it in the month of April...no scratch that, you WONT get in April! It takes 21 days to sail to the West Coast, minimum. If your car isn't on a ship now, you're in fantasyland, sadly.
Take it from me and many others around here in Production Weeks #13 & 14, my MCS was supposed to be completed today (ASK MINI claimed it was finishing up assembly today). There are no NYK Line ships in the Port of Southampton coming to the West U.S....so its a waiting game.
If you're still On Order, you've got a lot of thumb twiddling to do!

My car will be delivered to an east coast dealer (MINI of the Hamptons) and then put on a truck to get to me, where I'll pick her up in San Francisco. It should be interesting to see which of us gets their car first.

I'm quickly losing faith in the last week of April line from my MA, which is okay with. And the question is more related to me trying to figure out a general timeline of activities, such as applying for financing and the selling of my current daily car.

Hahaha! I've done the cross-country trip too many times and I think Interstates are the worst way to put mileage on a car (especially a car such as a MINI). I'd rather have it shipped here and then hit some twisties.

I placed my order/gave the dealer my deposit on Feb. 22, and got the production number 1 week later, on March 1. A little over 3 weeks later, 866-ASK-MINI said that it was in production, with a scheduled completion date of April 4. A couple days after that, the owners' lounge changed from "on order" to "scheduled for production." Today, (April 4th), 866-ASK-MINI says that it's been released to a carrier and awaiting transport to the port of exit.
Blind,
All of the communications and information you can get from ASK-MINI will come so much faster (99% of the time) than what the Owner's Lounge will update or possibly what your MA knows. I would always call the phone number before checking the other sources! I too am in "being transported to the port of exit" step along the way.
Don't worry, if the dealer or your MA hangs you out here with no information we'll all catch you!

I have heard of some delays though. Keep your fingers crossed
.It will be worth the wait

Hey bobdobbs, you ordered from the Hamptons too? I'm also in the Bay Area and couldn't wait to have my order put in. When did you place your order? I ordered on March 13 and it's supposed to be completed on Thursday, but who knows. It'll be interesting to see how the shipping from the Hamptons will be like to California...I'm still confused as to where it actually gets shipped.
Oh, and anon0mus, i had a production number March 13, the day I ordered, and it wasn't until April 1 when my status changed from "on order" to "in production" on the owner's lounge, but ask-mini stated that same day that it was scheduled for completion April 6. So you never know...it could come sooner...their systems don't seem to match or be updated very well.
Our Car Stayed
"on order' until last sunday (4/2) and it is scheduled to be completed by 4/9. On the website, it stays on order until right before it goes into production. 866askmini can give you more accurate information.
I guess we all just sit here and wait....
I ordered mine from Long Beach Mini on 21 Mar, got a prod # on 23 Mar and do not have a production date even though on 28 Mar, ASK MINI indicated a mid to late may delivery date (prod week 17).
ASK MINI seems to be the most informed so I would try them first. A call to LB MINI resulted in a "we will call you in mid to late May when your car is ready for pickup"...great, lots of info there...

Woohoo! I called ASK-MINI today and I'm currently in production! (Well, not me..but my MCS.) It also gave me an expected completion date of April 14th. I'm pumped, and you all rock! The miniusa.com site still shows me as "On Order," but whatever to that.
So I believe that you're right, Cushin14...it isn't impossible. In any event, I have a better timeline to work off from for the sale of my current daily car and when to put my application in with my credit union.

I ordered mine from Ill and had it in 8 weeks. MSRP. and lots of goodies like mats and free instalation of mods at no cost. Cancel and go to another dealer.

In terms of sales tax, if you buy out of state, you take care of the purchase price and misc fees etc. @ the dealer and when you take delivery or drive the car home to CA you take it to the DMV to get it registered and pay CA sales tax based on your county sales tax rate.
I would imagine that smog issues are not a problem since its a new vehicle, you would not be required to provide proof of an inspection or such. Check out this CA DMV faq here: http://www.dmv.ca.gov/pubs/brochures...cts/ffvr29.htm
You can ship via enclosed carrier and some out-of-state dealers may provide shipping discounts to entice sales. You can always fly one way to pick the car up and drive it home too!
Some popular out-of-state dealers that have catered to California owners are Classic MINI (Ohio) and MINI of the Hamptons (Southampton, NY). If you were to order from an dealer who gets their MINIs delivered in an east coast port it will also shave a lot of time off of the Atlantic Crossing sailing time. I would definitely investigate this...don't settle for July or August, the summer is rapidly approaching and you need your MINI!
Hey Lars,
Check with Long Beach MINI. I got on their waiting list on 27 Feb and they called me 2 1/2 weeks later and asked if I was ready to order.
They indicated at the time that I would get my MINI mid May, which I thought was pushing it, but I just got confirmation that my MINI has been scheduled for production during week 15, so I will be joining Anon0mus. LB MINI also has some nice inventory of MCS's, depending on the config you want.
