tuition

So, as a high school student, I am getting ready to go to college, and the application process is finally over!!! I got my acceptance letter on Saturday, along with a $130,000.00 scholarship that covers tuition at my school (www.olin.edu). My parents decided a while ago that if I got a full ride, they would buy me a car of my choice (within reason). Needless to say, I ended up buying a Mini, specifically a CR/B MINI Cooper S with the JCW package. I LOVE IT!!! I'll post pictures after I wash it, since it was in the mini showroom it is all smudged up with fingerprints and such , and I'm supposedly getting different mirror caps, so pictures will (hopefully) come by the end of the week!

PS Her name is Tuition!

I like this school. They pay you to go there. Wish I had thought about it

A Cooper S with JCW is within reason? Wow! I wonder what they'd consider unreasonable then!

Congratulations, study hard, drive safely, and remember, the back seats fold down if you need a little more room

Haha, That reminds me of the time I was in high school and made a similar deal with my dad.

He said if I got a decent scholorship (not a full ride, but at least 50%) he'd buy me a new Porsche.

I'm in college now, no such luck. I guess I had a bit too much "fun" in high school.

Oh well, I cant complain about what I drive considering I'm 19, or can I?

Congrats on both the scholorship and the MINI!

A JCW MCS seems a fair trade for saving your folks 130K plus interest. Congrats and enjoy.

Did you parents know that everyone accepted to Olin gets a scolarship before they made the deal with you??

Congratulations on the full ride and the pint sized ride (with plenty of boost).

Congrats. My brother and I made similar deals with our folks way back when. We both went to the Naval Academy. I got a 66 Maserati Mistral and my brother got a 66 E Type Jag. Back then (70's), those were reasonable. Don't forget to thank your parents. Then again, you just saved them a lot of money. Both of my kids turned down full ride scholarships to various schools and I still got them cars, but nothing as nice as a MINI!

Well, my dealer would have washed it, but I was really excited to start motoring, and it was 9:30 pm, so I just set up an appointment for later to get the CF mirror covers, Ipod adapter, and a full detail. And yes, my parents did know everyone at Olin got tuition, but it's still tuition paid, and Olin is a great school, I turned down MIT, Columbia, Rose Hulman, School of Mines, Harvey Mudd, and Washington University in St. Louis. My parents are stoked!

Those are some big named schools that courted you...

Is the School of Mines in Colorado? If it is, I've got a friend that is an instructor there.

I'll be out in Boston in August, but Tuition isn't coming, I've seen what salt does to the poor cars and yes the School of Mines is indeed in Colorado, I believe there is also one in SD
