DIY floor mat install

OK I need help here. Yes I am cheap and wanted to DIY my mats. The rear mats are easy enough. Tilt/slide the seat forward and plop them in place. But the fronts requre an anchor thingy.

The instructions call for placing the mat against the accelerator pedal mechanism and then locating a place to put the hook.

I assume you have to poke the holes through for the hooks but do I have to drill into MIB's floor to mount the hook?

Is there a hole in the floor already for the floor mats?

HELP

I have both MINI rubber mats and carpet. You do not need to use the anchors. The mats will not slip at all (either type).

My mats were dealer installed, and there are no anchors at all--just the hole in the mat where the anchor would go.

I've found the aftermarket anchors to work much better since they take advanatage of the fact that the MINI floor (well the MCS anyhow) is overengineered to begin with.

Check the online vendors for the anchors. Of course, you will have to drill into the floor and use the .25" stainless backing plates that come with the product, but it's worth it for the piece of mind.

Also pick up some of the HID Blinker Fluid.

Anchors only apply to early model MINIs. I don't know precisely which models it can be used in but the parts person explained how my '05 did not need them nor had holes for them.

Like most others posted I didn't use the anchors. I have an 05 and the mats don't move a millimeter even without the anchors. Just plop them down. I was not about to cut holes into my mats.

I didn't find any myself... but the installation was exceedingly easy. I'm kind of irritated they didn't do it at the dealership.

Figure out where you want the anchor to sit based on the location of the fuzzy circles on the underside of the mat, put the point into the floorbard, then push hard and twist. When it's properly started, it'll kind of stand in place. Then it's just a matter of two or three turns to fully seat the anchor. I wish I had done it sooner. the first two weeks I had the car, my mat would slide and interfere with the pedals every 2-3 days.

I installed my MINI rubber mats the day I brought the car home from the dealer - just couln't see paying them to do it (more the principal than the money). I did use the anchors. As stated above they are easily installed. Just place the mat on the floor and locate where the anchor needs to go and simply turn it until it screws into the carpet. Very simple and no worries about the mats shifting around. Although, I never did try them without the anchors so they might not be an absolute neccessity.

FWIW, I'm thinking of putting in some coco mats this spring. The rubber mats are great for the winter, but the coco mats are a nice addition to the interior (a friend had them in an old air cooled VW years ago and I always thought they looked great in that car).

Okay I know this sounds really stupid but ...
1) My carpet mats always side in the way and have gotten in the way drivng do these have anchors???
2) I always thought they just plopped right down on the floor, does the dealer actually charge for this?? I thought it would be a courtsey if it came with the car that they would just stick them in there for you?
I know I've made a fool of myslef but an answer to my 1st ? would be helpful.

Yes they have plastic screw type anchors that velcro to the back of the mats. Your dealerships detailing department should have extras if you need some. Actually, I could send some to you if your dealership won't help (they only take a minute to install).

Install instructions for anyone that is unsure how,

Place the velcro anchors centered to the fuzzy circle on the back of the mats.

Place the mats in the car where you want them. Hammer them in with your fist (just enough to here a pop to get the hole started, don't be shy, one good pop is best).

Now carefully peel up the mat while leaving the anchor behind.

The anchor is self tapping, so just press down and screw them in.

Install the mats and your ready to go.

There's an anchor? No hole in my rubber mats, nor are there any anchors coming out of the floor..

I wouldn't expect rubber mats to slide. They're rubber.

And there seems to be some sort of misconception about what the anchors are and how they work. The carpet mats have two soft cirles on the bottom which act as velcro loops. The anchors look like plastic screws with big, flat, rough heads. They screw into the floor of the car and the rough heads act as the velcro hooks. The mats have no holes. They just adhere to the top of the anchors.

I never knew that floor mats need to be "installed". I thought you just kind of threw them down there. Learn something every day on NAM.

sorry, didn't realize they were rubber. If they are mini rubber mats, then you have to poke through the thin rubber where it looks like the hole should be.

see my last post about the hole. The anchor comes with the mats and you attach it to the floor.

My rubber mats came with these anchors

Velcro on the other side

Be very careful, those anchors are sharp. I was cleaning my MINI, and removed the matt, tossed them on the grass--didn't realize the anchor came off--after cleaning them and I grabbed them to put back in the car, the anchor got me good
