MINI Lojack ??

I asked my MA for help in filling out an "Application for Anti-Theft Device Discount" from my insurance company and he checked off that my new MINI possessed a "pulse, signal or satellite tracking device by which the location of the vehicle may be tracked by the police or a central monitoring station."

I did not order a Lojack system and my dealer did not advertise one - but I did opt for a NAV system. Does anyone have any idea what is going on here - is there some stealthy tracking device we don't know about in our MINIs??? Does having a NAV permit your vehicle to be tracked??? Is this part of the domestic spying program??? Curious owners want (and NEED) to know !!!!

Never heard that before. Maybe he was confused with a telematics system like Onstar. I had Lojack installed on my previous car and it was done by Lojack and not the dealer or the manfacturer. Before I took delivery of my car, the Lojack guy showed up at the dealership and installed it. When I finally took delivery, the dealer provided me all the official Lojack paperwork to show to my insurance company for the discount.

Show me where I can get the computer seriously, I don't like driving 100+ miles for every little light. Its wort its cost in gas. And so this isn't a hijack, I thought GPS was supposed to be a passive system.

Not to hijack the thread...

I have a friend that has a Acura TL or RL (its about 50K - whichever model) and this car does damn near everything....adaptive cruise control, active noise cancellation, button to lower the back seat head rests... on and on...

it has "Onstar" and apparently with a court ordered wire tap, they can turn on the interior microphone without your knowledge and listen in your car...

I hope terrorists have Onstar!!

FYI, only 'LoJack' certified techs can install LoJack. Dealerships can't do it, or be present during installation.

And MA's are selling cars... They're not 100% accurate, and sometimes this is intentional. Mini car salesmen are car salesmen.

Look, your MA is simply trying to help lower your insurance. If your insurance company buys it, and it is he/she (the MA) that checked the box, and not you, then all is well, right ?

To answer part of your original question, NAV allows you to track satellites, not the other way around. You need some sort of transmitting device to to tracked. NAV is a receiver only.
