Whooo! 1000 miles this morning. 250 to go (dont worry, I was watching the road)

Funny, I just noticed that little "computer" button on turn signal today. Took a month for me to find that

Hey guys, what is everyone up to??

Got some new toys:

New badge holder. I'm a modding freak!!! I ordered about 20 custom magnets from www.cafepress.com They are too small for the holder but only about a buck each so who cares!

New "Official" journals

I am like 40 freaking miles away from finishing break in. It is taking soooo long. I'm a little bummed because only 1 mini out of the last 20 or so I've waved at has waved back. it was a really hot babe so that helped a little.

Casper and I went to the Dragon last weekend and found a tiny twin. Here is a link to one of Killboy's shots of the two of us on the Dragon in the rain.

Hi All,

Good to see the Week 6 Thread back up near the top again.

I should hit 3000 miles today and I'm starting to think about a mid-term oil change at 5000. I do believe that BMW is right when they tell us that the first change is around 10,000, but if 10,000 is good, then 5000 is better. Right?

I got my 15% reduction pulley and HDI intake system installed last weekend by Randy Webb. Wow!! (See my review).

I gotta say, driving Emma is as much of a thrill as when I first started driving oh so many years ago. My wife thinks I'm nuts. However, she can't really complain as it was her idea to get me the MINI as a birthday/anniversary/Father's Day/etc gift.

I've also really enjoyed this electronic MINI community. I've posted on other special interest forums but the grand total number of those posts wouldn't even have got me out of neutral here. I'm looking forward to joining the local face to face MINI community as well. I've joined the local MINI Club (Southern California Mini Maniacs) and hope to actually make it to an event in June.

Next major upgrades:
  • Driving School (September or October)
  • Cat Back Exhaust
  • Brake upgrade (Pads and fluid for sure, rotors possibly)
  • ECU Upgrade (MTH, UNICHIP? Still Thinking)

Good to hear from all. Take Care.

Phil

ego bruised, but still cruisin

Car's running great, I wish I had more mods added like pj here, 15% and hdi box are in my sights.

I think I'm the first one from week 6 to get a ticket, I got speeding a few weeks ago, my first ticket in over 6 years.

End of month + right after taxes = ticket from cops.

I was on a long curvy section of city street, and a red mustang with a front wheel problem was goin slow, I moved around the 4 car backup for the pass, and right when i passed the stang up 2 bike cops were waiting with laser, one pulling over another car.

Well, hopefully I can get my fix-it ticket for the window tint written off, I really don't want to take it off it looks so good.

So anyone know any police officers in the Bay Area?

Those are great pics. I wish the Dragon wasn't so far away. We really need some sort of West Coast meet like this.

I think it would be great to get a classic mini to keep mine company. Though I currently am saving for an Ariel Atom... Looks like I'm going to need a bigger garage too.

Sorry to hear about your ticket muggy.

I am signed up for Phil Wicks at Gateway in June. I can't wait to see how Cube handles the track. I will post my impressions after that.

I have always been on the fence about getting an early oil change. I figure I will get an oil change after the track day. At least it is a justification for spending the extra money.

Just hit 1250 today!

Boy, does 6500 rpm ever sound sweet!

Total waste of money toy but I got a a vehicle performance computer today. Does 0-60 times, calculates horsepower, real time G-forces. Pretty cool to see the G-forces you pull though turns and accelerations. 0.60 lateral G's on a 360 freeway on ramps without even pushing it. I signed up for the PDX Mini club so I can attend some track days and get some actual use out of it.

Bump

It has been a while so I thought I'd bump the week 6 group back to the front page and see what everyone has been up to.

I installed some new bling today

I find it hilarious that I spent money on an upgrade that was basically 99.9% bling on put in on the inside of the car where no one can see it

So as I am putting on the strut brace I actually break one of the nuts. Now, I am not that strong of a guy. I barely have the strength to lift this computer mouse. So I cant imagine that I had the strength to break a nut. (I was using a torque wrench too). I guess there may have been some structural problem.

So when that nut popped off, my first thought was that I was going to have to have the car towed to Rasumussen which would then be followed by the service staff making fun of me for hours on end. "How could you screw up a strut brace install. It is only 6 nuts??"

Well, I got the broken nut off and put on one of the old ones. So far the wheel hasn't fallen off (yet)

I joined the PDX Mini club. I'd highly encourage you guys to join up with a local club if you can.

This weekend I am joining 19 other mini's driving to the Oregon coast for lunch. In July I'll be joining 60 or so mini's at the Portland Historic races. Sounds like it should be a great weekend of seeing old and new sports cars. Later in July we are spending the weekend at the LeMans races at the Portland International Raceway.

The club has regular motocross days too so I am going to have to pick up a helmet soon.

Also in July, I signed up for a high performance driving course to spend the day driving around the Portland International Raceway with a one-on-one instructor.

I've heard rumor that the owner of the raceway drives a mini!

I hope that the other people who signed up for the class on the same day have $100K+ sports cars, cause I plan to smoke them all with my mini clown car!!!

(All this assuming my wheels dont fall off )

But you know it's there and that's the important part.

I've joined the Southern Califrnia Mini Maniacs (SCMM). We're doing a breakfast get together this weekend and going to see the movie "CARS" afterword. This will be my first SCMM event.

In two weeks, the club is going to the Irwindale Speedway for a "Night At The Races". We get our own parking area inside the track for a mini MINI car show and we get to take a parade lap around the track between races. I'm looking forward to it.

The SCMM Track day is in September. I'm trying to swing that. Don't know if I'll go for one, two or all three days.

Phil

Bolus, nice pics! Looks like you had fun. We just started a new club with a whopping four members, at least we all met autocrossing. There's another in Stowe, VT that I'm sure will straggle in.

I designed yet *another* badge for our local club. Great to see all you fellow 6 week'ers proudly sporting the badges I've designed. Thanks!

I'm at 3,011 miles today. You guys are passing me right up. Keep this thread up top!

Vermont MINI Club

ps good bling Bolus...

Europlates are awesome! MoF, one of our salesman was over in the UK last month and he had his friend make up the real deal for me. A rear reflective yellow UK plate. I tucked it under my Vermont plate and it's the bomb, the real deal, the vickers nickers, the bees knees I had them space the numbers waaay out R 53.

You will absolutely LOVE the JCW intake, good choice!

I took Cube to the track this past weekend. Phil Wicks Driving Academy was at Gateway International raceway. It was a blast.

The event was Saturday and Sunday. On Saturday, I was a corner worker on the track. So I got a front row seat for all the action. It is a completly different experience watching a race from right on the track.

Then Sunday it was my turn to get out on the track. When I wokr up, it was raining. It was still raining when I got to the track, but we still went out anyway. The first few sessions were slow, but that was OK because I was still getting a feel for the racing line, and trying to get the tire pressures dialed in. I could really feel the LSD helping me through the turns, especially with a slick track. The rain let up, and at lunch they dried the track. So during the afternoon sessions I was able to open up and start working on improving lap times. The little MINI is quick in the turns. I was able to keep up with a Corvette in the turns (until we got to the oval). Even with the stock runflats, the car held on through the turns. I got it up to 105 down the straight, which was tapping the rev limiter in 4th gear, because I didn't have time to shift to 5th. The stock brakes impressed me as well. Coming down the straight into turn 1 and 2 required hard braking down to about 40-50 mph. Even after 20 minute sessions, the brakes had very little fade.

If you ever get a chance, take your MINI to the track.

Cube, that sounds very cool.

I am very excited about the driving course I'll be tking next month at Portland International Raceway. One of the mini owners at the rally last weekend has been out on the raceway. He says you can get up to 115-120 on the straight-aways.

Sounds fun, bolus. Are you taking the Pro Drive Racing school? I would love to know how it is. I'm planning on heading up there sometime this summer as well. Got to get the gekko on the track!

Props for week 6 production- I just got back from a 1600+ mile road trip from OR to Vegas and back, and the gekko performed flawlessly!

3737 on the OD. Time to get to the track already.

I'll do a full write up once I get done. I've heard some good things too. It should be a blast assuming I dont hit a wall or something

2699 miles for me.

Please do not hit a wall. How could you drive your MINI with a wall stuck to it?

Thanks for the link. The menu looked so good I just signed up for Aug 1 & 2nd. Vrrroooommm!

Look forward to hearing about your experience. Good luck!
