I have a stock 2000 Miata and have now aded a 2004 MC. I agree they are quite different.
- gearing on MC seems to make better use of what power is available across all speeds. The Miata is faster off the line. I certainly find I drive the MC harded and have more fun doing it.
- Living in Canada means snow. I miss the fun of the Miata for the part of the year when it is in storage. I get to have fun all year with the Mini.
- The Mini is a great car for energetic drives but is is equaly suited for longer more leisurely runs. The Miata just does not give the comfort on long drives.
- I certainly get more comments about the Miata than the Mini.

If I could only have one it would be the Mini but I plan to enjoy the best of both.

Test drove both recently

Two completely diferent cars. The only thing they really have in common is they are both fun to drive. MCS won out for me. I take a couple of business trips a month 4-5 hrs driving. The Miata felt too small with the top up. I just could not picture myself doing 5 hrs in it.

I loved my miata and left it for the Mini, only to be left on the side of the road more than once. I love my Mini too, but it has never been as dependable as my Miata and nothing replaces the rear-wheel drive and the drop top. Keep the Miata.
