Hi everyone, I have a new 06 John cooper works mini that i had the dealer do the the instaliation of the package. Here is my problem.. I was on my way to work one night when all of a sudden the temp overheat light came on. I looked at the gauge and it read 250*!!! I pulled off the highway and let it cool down. After about 10 mins. i was able to contuine on my way. I called the dealer and they said to bring it in. So i did the next day. The dealer found that the cooling was not hooked up after the install. They hooked it up and said it would be fine now.. I was on my way back home when it overheated again! Only this time the temp gauge needle was going from 30* to 140* to 250* to 30* to 140* to 250* again. Very strange.. So i pulled over to let it cool down again and was able to get home. I called the dealer again and they said that they will send out a truck to pick it up the next day. It went back to the shop and this time they said that there was a large air pocket in the cooling system. They bled out the air and said that they road tested it and it was fine.. Anyhow here is my question...What is the normal operating temp of my mini because the temp gauge now reads about 195* when iam driving and do you think any damage was done? Do you think the thermostat may be sticking?

Wow that stinks. What they are telling you about it being an air pocket makes sense to me. That's what I was thinking while I read your post. The question of was any damage done is a hard one to answer. My feeling is that you probably didn't hurt it because you didn't keep driving. You pulled over to let it cool down. As far as what's normal for your temp gauge.....mine only has hash marks & isn't marked with numbers for the degrees of temperature. My gauge reads in the center when it's warmed up & I'm driving. 195 degrees probably is ok. I believe that you have a 195 degree thermostat. Document all of these problems in case there is a problem down the road. Good luck.

Chuck
