tires, tyres, tires...

I need new tires and I don't want run-flats. I told that 215/40/17 could cause wheel damage from the huge divets in the streets and highways of california. Additionally they could/can rub on the fenders.

205/45/17 are fine with me but what's any good?

A review of the Tire Forum archives might help. Not only are there opinions about sizes but also about brands and whether or not to keep the runflats. I replaced mine and have been very pleased. But I have also just gotten a MINI spare just in case.

Just curious - how much does one of those Mini "donuts" cost, anyway ?

Tirerack.com has quite a few reasonable choices.
Talk to Alex or send him an email.
In that size here are some choices-
BFG g-Force Sport $99 each 340 treadwear AA traction
BFG g-Force T/A KDW2 $117 each 300 treadwear AA traction
Kumho Ecsta SPT $93 each 320 treadwear AA traction
Yokohama AVS ES100 $99 each 280 treadwear AA traction
Avon Tech M550 A/S $107 each 360 treadwear AA traction (All season)

Lots of choices, recommend no runflats. Nonrunflats are cheaper and ride better. Just keep a can of flatfix in the car and a AAA card, you'll be all set.

Cheers
