can anyone give me the pro or con on using the top side oil changer that
promini sells? it seems that since the oil filter can be changed from the top
there would never be a reason to climb under the car to change the oil.
and if i would use this should the oil filter be changed before emptying the
crankcase or after? any thoughts would be appreciated.

 

I have used them on Benz motors. They get more out than draining out the plug. This is because of the shoulders on the plug boss and because the designers run the dip stick tube nearly to the bottom of the pan. This means the suction hose will not bend but dead ends against the low point. Toyota 3.4 motors do NOT work. Dip stip tube stops too high. I never tried the Mini. But the concept is sound if the motor designers cooperate. Mostly you see them used on marine applications.

 

Reviving an old thread here...

I was looking at a power bleeder, and saw the top side oil changer on promini's website--never heard of it prior to that. Has anyone tried it on the MINI? I'm skeptical, but if it works, it would be a nice workaround.
