I need help.... (color choice)

Man why is this so hard!?

bascially i am torn between Jet Black and Electric Blue/Black. Any other car would be no brainer and I have been planning on Black but the MINI almost screams for a wild color. The electric blue is gorgeous..... But i have always wanted black and you cant argue with its hotness.

your thoughts?

keep in mind, they are both going away in 06. the JB looks great, but is a pain in the neck to keep clean. i'd have to say EB/B. not my style, but everytime i see one i'm amazed just how good it looks. JB is a bit more stealthy as well, which is good and bad.

Who's got one?

I like being one of the very few JB/JB MINI's in existance. I see lots of blues and reds. The silver color seems to be the most common color around here.

Here are pics of mine (taken before my JCW kit and JCW weels). Black especially lends itself well to tinted windows...

The way I see it, you can't go wrong with a MINI--even Pepper White and Yellow look great on MINI's (just not my style).

EB/B. With black wheels and dark tint, they look killer!

I vote for the EB. It is a unique, vibrant color and I think suits the mini's personality well (although I personally prefer it with the white roof). It stands out among other cars well too. Black looks good when well maintained, as it does on most cars, but it is definately a lot more work to keep it looking that way.

There you go, my thoughts as requested

If you were leaning towards black on any other car I'd go with black. I know how you feel about wanting a wild color on the car but as typical as black may be in the real world, in the MINI world, its actually not that common (unless you're talking about wheels then black is everywhere except carwashes ). Go for the black and spice it up with a roof decal and some side stripes

After living across the pond now for two months the most popular color over here seems to the light color metallic blue not sure what the name of the color is and it doesn't seem to be available on the 05 cars anymore, at least in the states. Black on Black is way cool, not sure if this car is still available for sale but deserves taking a look at if you are considering Blac/Black, it's pretty cool:

1. I test drove a black Cooper with a white hood and stripes. I absolutely loved it with all that chrome on the exterior... But i love every car in black. I could never get black because i put so many miles on my cars in such a short amount of time, it's dirty in no time. But if you love black, i agree it's a great color and it's VERY classy looking on the mini, and pretty rare.

2. My favorite color BY FAR is Electric blue. (LY was second choice, and i couldn't afford an S+insurance at 19) EB suits the mini very well, and it just screams "LOOK AT ME! I'M HOT!" I think it looks great with every roof color, also. If i could get another mini, hands down i'd get an EB.

Black is beautiful, and when clean looks awesome, but i'm all for EB.

That looks familiar...

I vote for Jet black as well... The blue is a close second though...IMHO.

Here's MINI before the tint and aftermarket 18" wheels were added...

Both EB and JB are going away so no contest there.

If you've always thought about a JB, just close your eyes and go with it.

Although MINIs do scream wild color, your personal MINI may not. You may want a more subdued look, one that is subtle and doesn't stick out like a neon light. You can also do a lot of tweaking and accessorizing to a JB.

Now if you LOVE EB...not your MINI, but you.......well that's a different story. I'm nuts over EB but I drive a Cooper and we're denied EB (...not that I'm bitter. ) Two very different looks, really (and fortunately for you). Search your soul!!!

Seems like black is most common around here. I personally like the blue color, but it's not as if it will be ugly....either way it's gonna be cool!

Thanks for all the input! I will probably go with JB but that electric blue still gnaws at my side!! the first time i saw it my mouth dropped. And I never see black MINIs around here but i see that EB one ont he way to work all the time! Its so tough. My girlfriend wants EB.... she was looking at a Cooper but if she does it will have to go S as its only offered there and she wont budge.

I love the classy sexy sleek look of black and i would be chroming the S-lites... but i love the brillant eye popping gleam of the Electric blue (which still gets some sleekness form the black roof). Man this is tearing at my soul!

Thanks for the input, keep it coming. HAvent decided but I will probably stick with JB

Do you have a garage? I personally wouldn't concider a black car with having a garage. Have you ever owned a back car? Black is a bear to keep up, it will show every dust partical, scratch and swirl. If you are not a "detailer guru" I would shy away from black.

yeah i am definitely gonna have to keep up with it. not a guru...but this car would make me be better. And I do live in Phoenix and many say the black will kill for heat. I disagree with this however cause who can tell the difference between a billion degrees and a billion and 10 degrees? Plus all the heat really enters through the windows.

On top of this, Yes I have a garage at home. Also covered garages at work and school

My previous 'fun' car was a Mits Eclipse GS-T Spyder, black on black, tinted glass, gray leather. Polished wheels, blacked out headlights - got a LOT of comments on the car. And I agree - it was drop-dead gorgeous when it was clean. I was obsessive about cleaning, detailing, dusting, etc. And I swore I'd NEVER have another black car after that one. Come to think of it, I'd sworn off black cars BEFORE I bought the Spyder. . .

Bottom line: If you have the time and energy to keep it clean, go with the black. If you don't, well, let's just say "Ugh" - nothing worse than a dirty black car, I think. . .depends on what you want and how much time you're willing to put into keeping it up.

thats true. i dont really want to clean it all the time. also i live in dusty arizona! Nothing better than a just washed black car... but that only lasts for 10 minutes!

so Jet Black owners... how hard is the upkeep? And how bad does it look when not clean?

Keep it clean...

Here are pics of my 05 MCS after the JCW kit and JCW wheels. Since I've gotten my MINI, I've become obsessed about cleaning it. I wash it every week, often several times per week. The neighbors think I'm crazy. I just can't help myself! There's nothing I like more than to fondle my MINI (well, maybe that's not the best way to put it) after work or on an afternoon off! There's no better way to bond with your car than to hand-wash it and detail it regularly--I've got it worked down to a science!

Besides, despite the color you choose, you'll need to wash it weekly because the wheels get coated in brake dust, and there's nothing uglier than a beautiful car with dirty wheels. The rear gets dirty the fastest.

Black especially lends itself to the little splashes of color in the badges (the red 'S' and the JCW badges look like jewels). Nothing else gives such a deep reflective shine!
