British Kompressor?

hi,

I presently own a 2000 C230 Kompressor and starting to seriously consider a 2005 MCS (hence the title )

I have had this car for about 2 years now and really like it, but it's starting to get kind of boring. It's actually quite fun to drive on the highway but isn't as agile in the city where most of driving actually happens.

I know the MCS will be a much better city car but I was wondering about freeway driving. How is high speed stability? How is the 70 to 90 acceleration? This is an erea where I am afraid I will miss the Benz alot.

Taking into consideration the number of answers, I guess this means it's just not that kind of car...

sorry for the stupid question.

My MCS is rock steady at 120MPH.
Throttle response is great from 70-90. If you drop back to 4th or 5th, it picks up great.

I drove a C230K at Comdex 2 years ago in the Benz test track area they set up, and I don't beleive that its acceleration was a patch on the MCS.

70 - 90 accelleration is pretty impressive in my base Cooper CVT. I would imagine it would be fantastic in an "S". At frewway speeds the Cooper is very solid. The steering is very precise and the car does not "wander" at all, unlike the SUV's that I am used to. I have not driven a Benz, so I don't know how it compares.

70-90 MPH time? Come on over and I'll give you a ride in mine...you can time it with a stopwatch.

Thanks for the answers guys...

I went to test drive one yesterday and I have to say I was pretty impressed! The only downside to the testdrive is that the sales person would not let me go on the highway, and thats what I was there to try.

I did manage to get it up to 90 going up a winding hill . At that point the sales guy was holding onto the dash

Also, the demo car was a 2004 MCS which I beleive has a bit less power then the 05 I would get.

I think I will trust you guys and order it tomorrow. DS with black roof and black bonnet stripes.

230 and MCS

My wife drives a 05 230K and I drive an 05 MCS. I just drove the 230 up to DFW and had some fun driving around Ft Worth and Dallas, but it is no match against the MCS. Granted I didn't use the shifting in the Merc, just foot slammed on pedal. The 230 is stock but the MCS has a pulley, CAI, MTH. Bottom line, leave the 230k for the significant other and the MCS for youself, then you have the best of both worlds. Final word: buy a road bike and motorcycle then you really are set!!

Kompressor, if I don't have some idiot doing 20mph in front of me, I'm usually doing 90 by the time I get to the end of an average freeway onramp. It's easier to slow down in a hurry to merge than speed up.

Just as a referance, the 2000 C230 Kompressor had a 2.3 liter supercharged engine. All other models after that year had a 1.8 supercharged but still had the 230 marking.

the 2.3 liter has 200 ft.pounds of torque which makes a big differance on the highway.

Ditto and will raise you to 130 MPH and Yes 4th gear is the one to be in for that speed increase.

My wife has had four or five Lexus and I don't like any of them as well as my MCS.

I found I don't normally drive by the speedometer anymore. But I'm definitely driving faster than I would in my sister-in-law's 2001 230Kompressor.

My personal impression is I think the Mercedes is more solidly built. They use much better interior materials. However, the car is conservatively styled in the Mercedes Benz way. It is also built to cruise pretty fast but not necessarily a quick car.

The MINI, in my opinion is designed to be expressive and quick first. Then designed to go fast. It goes fast but most of the fun is in the quickness of it. When I pull into the passing lane to pass other cars on the highway, I'm quite surprised how fast the MINI spools up and accelerates by everybody. The engine begs to make runs for the redline, but cruises quite comfortably just below 3000rpm. The fun is in the driving.

For the Mercedes, I feel I'm much more relaxed when I arrive, but I didn't have half as much fun getting there.

In the city, the MINI is much easier to find parking spaces for.
