Mystery of the 1st Gen fuel system

Greetings. I have a 2006 R53 JCW and am having problems with the fuel system. I replaced the filter and pump. Car starts but is fuel starved after a minute or so. I came across a reference to a fuel siphon jet that is part of the return line to the pump. Does anyone know how or what it does.

Yup. It uses fuel returned from the fuel pressure regulator to siphon fuel from the
passenger's side of the tank to the driver's side, where the fuel pump is.

If your tank is reading 3/8 full or more, that's not your problem, as once the fuel's at a high- enough level
to slosh over the center hump, the 'sucking jet pump' isn't needed. The usual symptom of that
'pump' getting clogged or coming unhooked is that your car dies with the gauge still reading that you have
some fuel left.

Check voltage to the fuel pump, and if that's 12v+, I'd suspect the pump itself.
