Scan Tool R paraecommendation?

I am looking for a recommendation for a reliable code scanner for my 2011 MINI Cooper S. The handheld Autotel scanners that Advance Auto and Autozone use and sell will not link up to my car's system - there is always a communictions error.

I don't need a professional shop quality scanner, however, beyond the basic code retrieval function it would be nice to be able to monitor some key parameters while the car is running like fuel pressure, fuel mixture, timing, system voltage, temperatures, etc.

Does anybody have a recommendation for a scanner not to exceed $200? Thanks, Tim B.

Although I bought (and still have) a Foxwell corded scanner, the one linked below bought subsequently is my favorite being cordless bluetooth and compatible with all OS. In addition to finding and clearing a fault code that the Foxwell could not, can also monitor available PIDs (parameter IDs) with multiple customizable dashboard gauges. An example shown on my Android tablet, noting I believe your 2nd Gen has more available PIDs than does the 1st Gen. OBDLink also offers bluetooth scanners other than the one linked.

OBDLINK MX+

Friend of mine bought this one for his 2019 F56:
Amazon Amazon

It will read out codes and reset service monitors. Seems like a knock-off Foxwell device, but it works.

Look into BimmerLink and a Bluetooth dongle. Both won't set you back $100. I like it for several reasons, I have installed an Android head unit in my Coupe, I have it installed on it with a K+DCAN cable so my code reader is always with me. I also already owned one of their approved BT devices so I can use it on my phone/table/head unit.

Scan down to their buy adapter link for approved dongles. It is linking them from Amazon instead of buying from them at 2X the price like a lot of other car scan apps
