I'm a long time auto enthusiast starting out with air cooled and water cooled VW's, have owned a 600hp Supra, Mitsubishi Evolution, Corvette Z06, just to name a few. I have mostly autcrossed my later cars but have done some track days and drag racing as well.
I have been in construction much of my life so daily driving duties have mostly been left to trucks and vans sometimes kicking my desires for performance cars to the curb.
So it's been a little over ten years since having a vehicle with a "proper transmission". Now with a 14 year old daughter who just recently got her permit I thought what better time to get a manual shifting car? Something autoxable? Has a soul? Gets us up to the ski hill and back? Which by the way is a super twisty road 16 miles each way and not always covered in snow you know,
So the hunt began for a "manual shifting AWD" car in the $10-$15K range and the Countryman rose to the top. In particular this one which popped up within 50 miles and checked a lot of boxes.
It does need some work. I took it to a local shop called British, Italian, German for a post purchase inspection/first oil change.
Timing chain (has a intake cam sensor engine code), rotors, battery, oil pan gasket (seepage).
Car has 103K, I went into this expecting to do a chain, and possibly a clutch (delayed until my daughter learns it).
I will likely start a thread in the R60 Countryman forum (although its seems a bit dead there) seeking advice on the items above and some future upgrades, I see an exhaust in my future.
Do Countryman folks hang out anywhere else?
Any advice on getting a window (moroney) sticker specific to this car? I searched this forum and tried the mdecoder and bmwork links and they all4 seemed to be broken.
I appreciate the knowledge shared on this forum (as well as the others I belong to) as it helps me get my knowledge of the car up to speed quickly.
Cheers!
Thanks for the comments and suggestions.
I have been roaming your site, have had a few things in a cart here and there. Like the M7 speed belly pan. BIG mentioned it was missing, I dont think they realize that the USDM Countryman didn't come with the belly pan, as I see you have pointed out elsewhere.
I'm leaning towards having a shop do the timing chain, When I get the estimate I will see if they have the WP/WP on there.
Replaced the battery today and hoped my Innova 3100J code reader would reset the battery but after some research it does not have that feature so I'm looking for the easiest way to get that done.
