Hi all new to the Mini world, I am researching the possible purchase of a used mini as a retirement gift to me. I may ask some really dumb questions so please bear with me. Thanks.

The answer to your first question is yes…R53 but only if you have planned your retirement properly, and can handle the adrenaline dump.

Right now the front runner is a 2006 Mini Cooper S Convertible supercharger not turbo, with 110k miles. 6 speed auto steptronic with paddles (please don't hate). Nice option packages too. dealer asking $5,900. What should i look out for regarding maintenance issues?

Well the one I mentioned, sold already, as I kind of knew it would. The search for the Holy Grail continues!

No worries, plenty of other MINIs in the sea. Would you consider a manual? Have you checked the Marketplace section on this site?

Welcome aboard! Keep your eyes peeled as these suckers seem to go quick! After a few months of searching this year I finally found my '04 Cooper S (R53 with 57k miles) all by chance when I went to look at a different R53 that had sold. They're out there!
