Hello Mini owners!

So I’m not an official owner yet but looking at a 2010 Clubman JCW to purchase as a daily driver/work commuter. I currently drive a lifted ‘13 Silverado 3500HD Dually with 35” tires. So going from one extreme to another... lol

The Mini of interest is a 2010 Clubman John Cooper Edition, 130k miles, it’s been in 3 fender benders according to the Carfax. It seems to be loaded good with navigation and Harman audio. It’s located about an hour from me and took a drive yesterday to look at it. The dealer it was at had Lambo’s, Land Rovers, Alfa Romeo’s etc. so it was a little intimidating being picky and wasting the salesman time looking at it since the price of this thing was prob a 1/4 or half what the tax is paid on these other cars.. but I looked for major flaws. Most of this is cosmetic, I’ll start from front to rear and list what I saw and hopefully get your opinion.

Headlights are faded
front emblem is faded
paint and stripes are in decent shape considering age
engine bay was clean
side markers are faded
doors open and close good
side mirrors seemed to rattle or a little loose
antenna housing was cracked and looked as if water could leak inside
it had a rust spot on the bottom edge of the gas fill
rear looked good and barn doors functioned fine.
interior was good, ebrake handle was cracked but the seats and trim looked good

so when I got down there I got surprised when the salesman said the windows and ac don’t work...
but they will fix it...
test drove good, clutch seemed fine
to me the suspension is good, I kicked the front tires to check the LCA bushings, lol
oh, there was no spare or jack and from what I remember it had some very slight surface rust in there... I think it was anyway

He did tell me the reason for the windows not working was it could be a module, after a quick google search he seemed to be correct.
On the AC they said it’s probably the compressor and they will replace it and get that fixed.

I put a deposit on it and they’re going to fix the AC and replace the module or whatever to fix the windows.
I will then go look at it again probably Tues or Wed.

i don’t know if the timing chain has ever been replaced or other major mechanical repairs have been done other than the water pump and services listed on the carfax.
I’m mechanically inclined and can do repairs when needed.

Is there anything I should look for on my seconded time checking this thing out?
out the door price is around 5k. What are your thoughts?

Thanks for taking the time reading this and your opinion will be appreciated!

Dave
