New Mini by surprise
New Mini by surprise
Hi Everyone, I just got an 06 Mini S from a friend. He purchased it with a trans problem he thought would be corrected by resetting the adaptations, but could never get the software to work and he said I could have it to get it out of his driveway. After getting INPA working and resetting the CVT adaptations, I couldn't get it into learning mode with the X on the cluster, I figured out it wasn't a CVT after all. lol So now I have this free mini and a bunch of questions for the gurus here on NAM. I'm looking forward to learning about this thing and being a part of NAM. I come from the Hot Rod world and went to motorcycles because I could fit more in my shop. lol I am a former ASE mechanic (BAR 84) and have a lot to learn about Euro's!! Talk soon, adown
Hi and welcome to NAM!
There is a ton of info for your 06 Mini Cooper S, know as an R53. You will find that information in the gen 1 area. https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...k-2002-2006-8/

Don't count your chickens before they hatch. Resetting the adaptations may have "fixed" the problem right now, but after you drive it a couple hundred miles and it relearns it is likely the issue will come back that was the cause of the problem before. We see those S trans fail where the valves bleed off pressure and cause them to have hard shifts all the time and adaptations only mask the issue until it relearns.
Ya, there is no adaptation reset for the S, but I tried every aisin adaptation learning I could find and nothing has fixed it. The valve body came in today, so I know what I'm doing saturday. lol Thanks for the replies!! adown
One thing to remember for those of us that have the auto asian transmission in their Mini S, change the transmission fluid every 15,000 miles.
VW uses asian transmissions and tried going with the lifetime fluid until they started failing. Now the fluid change is part of their regular maintenance.
Its too bad Mini would not stand behind their product and do the right thing; change the fluid instead of telling everyone it would last for the life of the car, so untrue.
Once you learn how its done, its not really that hard to take out the old and put in the new fresh fluid. Do the maintenance and save your Mini !
