Hello All!
Hello All!
About a month and a half ago I got my (new to me) 2016 Mini JCW. Not only was it my first car, but it was also the car I learned to drive stick in!
I love pretty much everything about it so far. I haven't done much to it yet but I do have some fun plans!

Jumping into a manual transmission is the way to go! Dailyish driving is the only way you'll drive it right.
I learned manual transmission on a brand new (at the time) 2005 Mazda RX-8. If I were getting a sports car, it'd have to be manual. That first week, I thought it was a terrible decision and that I should have bought another car (funnily enough I was considering MINIs at the time). But after I got used to driving manual, I LOVED my RX-8 and I am glad that I learned manual transmission. Until they die, I'll be driving manuals. And I eventually got a MINI too (a few months ago).
Welcome =)

Congrats, Nice JCW!

I love how easy the mini is to drive anyways. When I was learning I kept the auto start/stop on and if I stalled all I had to do was push in the clutch and it would turn back on.
I'll definitely drive stick too for as long as they're available. I've driven automatic again after driving stick and it's just so dull.

Pretty car.
I tell people that you just need to practice because it's more about feel than "knowing" what to do. So jumping into it is the way to go! And after driving manual transmission for years, I remember renting a car (automatic). I was so confused that I had my left foot on the brake and right on the gas until I realized that my left foot didn't have to do anything! My wife has an automatic which I drive rarely; it doesn't suck, but as you said, its just dull. There's nothing to do except push harder on the gas?
I've been watching "how to drive stick" videos on youtube for as long as I can remember. It's definitely a lot different in real life, but the theory certainly helped.
