07 R56 S makes me feel like a kid again.
Greetings from the PNW all!
Picked up my Gen2 R56 near a month ago and my face hurts from smiling. Week one was misfires, resulting in new coils, week two was a leaky oil pan, but I already knew it wasn't the 'ideal' MINI generation.
My only complaint, besides waiting so long to get one is I managed to choose the engine that doesn't have the iconic MINI sound. I've read you can get the pops and gurgles on an n14 in sport mode with a tune, that sounds great until you go to research it but the info is all over the place, Manic tunes, RPM tunes, Stage 1-3, it's worlds away from my tire/oil change experience with cars. Anyone know of an idiots guide? I'm not looking to min/max my power, I just want the fun sounds I've always associated with the brand.
Hate to drop a question in an introduction but hope to see some of you on the road... I'll be the guy with the goofy grin beeping at every MINI, even though no one ever beeps back.
Hi and welcome to the NAM family, Lujo!
It is a fine looking R56!
The fun factor is there, but before trying mods, make sure to replace oil with 100% synthetic, change the trans oil with synthetic, do brake check, ditch run flat tires, if it has them (they really run too harsh and in the long run, take away comfort, you will most likely want. Just buy a good 12 volt air compressor and a good radial tire patch kit.
A common problem with the R56 is the intake tube, where it attaches to the turbo, will get had, crack, cause air leaks and throw codes that may seem like a bad cat. The aftermarket silicone tube, will be a longer term replacement, than a factory one.
Air filter replacement is always a good idea, as it is happy with a clean one!
These cars are fun to drive and the smile should stay on your, whenever you are driving it!
Look into the gen 2 area for tips and tricks to keep it going well!
Congrats on you Mini and get on the road!

The tires I think will have to come soon as well. I made that decision the first time I drove over train tracks. First though I gotta manage my clear coat issue. The interior is flawless, but the hood screams 12 year old car.
Again thanks for all the advice, going to use it as a checklist.
