Another New Guy

Greeting Everyone !

Yes, another new guy. My mini is a 2007 R56 with the N14 engine. Bought it with the engine in 4 large totes plus a variety of loose parts..

It's been a challenge but it's slowly coming together. The engine had 2 burned pistons from?.. The block and head are at the machine shop for a new lease on life. Fresh valve job and cleaned up cylinder bores will start the build of this engine. New engine stand, many new tools along the way - lots and lots of cleaning and organizing. The seating has been replaced with nice leather ones. It's relatively low mileage at 7X,XXX miles - nice solid body. Can't tell exactly what the mileage is - battery has been disconnected for a while and can't read the odometer without it! Retired and widowed so this car has become my leading lady. I've been at it for a month or so hoping to wrap it up in another month.

Hope to be able to use the combined talents on this site - looks great! The old guy may need all the help he can get.

Ho and welcome to the NAM family, Jim!
Wow, you really took on a huge job! I hope you got it at the right price, which I am sure you did!
These engines came with many problems, but most can be worked on to make it be happy.
A huge problem they have is the rubber intake hose to the turbo gets too hot, turns to stone, cracks and leaks. During the same time, the turbo overheats, burns up the turbo bearing and cooks the oil going through the bearing and turns the oil to something less than a lubricant!
Make sure you only use full synthetic engine oil and change it every 5000 miles!
Look into the gen 2 area for help as you progress!
Show us some pics when you can!
