New-ish R53 owner

2004 R53 jcw 177k R.I.P.
2005 R53 97k
Good evening everybody ,
My names andrew, I recently purchased my first mini it was a 2004 R53 in black with black panther leather interior with The dealership JCW package. I was hit by a driver late at night during the rain with no headlights on. So I purchased my second Mini a 2005 R53 in pure silver with black and grey cloth interior.. I figured it was about time to interduce myself on the forms. I’ve been on the Fourms The last couple months and have familiarized myself with a few of the very active owners on this site . I’d like to think you guys thus far for a lot of the very in-depth and detailed DIY‘s. you all have helped me a lot . I added quite a few things to my JCW like a ALTA CIA, Alta 17% reduction pully, 380cc injectors, Some motor mounts and a few other odds and ends interior, Exterior and in the engine bay. I’ve only purchased my first JCW about five months ago and purchased my second this week . I am very glad to finally be a part of this community!!

Welcome to NAM.

With what you in place a rear sway bar, cam and a tune would put you around 235 hp (crank) and a very very nice corner carver. Too bad about the first one, that was great looking car.

Welcome to the forum

And it good to hear you were not hurt in the accident. Heck of a way to step up a year in vehicles.

Hi and welcome to the NAM family! I am sorry to read that your first Mini was wasted, but glad you are back on the road!
Did you buy back the old one? If so, have you any plans for the parts?
Both look and looked very nice. I am glad you stayed with Mini!

I did buy back my other one and I’m currently swapping many parts over to the silver one including my leather interior the anthracite interior panels, JCW exhaust, Alta intake, Alta 17% pulley, 380cc jcw injectors, cantoom aluminum radiator expansion tank and various other options the new silver mcs didn’t have.

That was a whole bunch of black on that Mini, looked great! I have a pure silver with the black top like yours and I love it. Good to see you got the crash victim back so you can rape and pillage all of your goodies off of it. Good luck with the new ride!

Will you be using the head off the wreck? I could use one, if it is not in your plans, but I can not afford the big bucks for one.
Maybe also the S charger.

ps. I am sorry that your Blackie was trashed. It was a sweet ride for sure!

I’ll probably use the head off the crashed car but I’ll have a spare head coming off the silver. The black mini has a big valve head on it.

I’ll probably rebuild the charger off the black mini and replace to the new mini so I’ll have an extra charger laying around soon.

Ok, let me know what you want for the standard SC.
I understand keeping the head and super charger. The difference in the two SC is the JCW should be teflon impregnated on the inside. You should use the one with the best bearings and drive gears.
The head difference is JCW has openned exhaust ports. nothing on the intake side. The 380 injectors and the smaller SC pulley are the real difference. The 04 JCW may not have the 380s, you will have to see. The 380s are blue. The 06 models sported the 380, but the 05 and older did not, unless the dealer installed them on the earlier models 200hp verses 210hp. Not a big difference and I have not used the 450s like some here have, but I understand them, with a hotter cam, makes these turn on pretty good!
Andrew, thanks for getting back with me so quickly. We look forward to seeing you do the switch over and hope you go to the gen 1 JCW area and post pics of your project!

If the oil dipstick is getting stiff or has bends in it, you should get a new one from a Mini dealer. They are only around 20 bucks and a whole lot better than dropping the pan, to remove a broken one.
Also check the hoses on the coolant expansion tank, as they can loosen and leak, which can cause overheating. Also the plastic tanks can fail and kill a good days drive. The aluminum ones are a best case replacement.
