New guy on the block

Hey, all, brand new to the forum, and MINI in general, roundabouts Cincinnati, OH. I just bought my first MC a few days ago, a 2010 JCW, and I'm absolutely loving it. Always liked the style to these cars, and I'm glad I got a good deal on a clean one. Haven't decided on her name, yet, but I'll let you know!

Welcome to NAM.

Very nice looking car. Be sure to change the oil every 5,000 miles.

Thanks, guys. I'll take the advice, I always change the oil at 5k anyway. I don't know if MINI is one of those manufacturers that suggests longer intervals, but I never follow that, I'm a bit of a skeptic.

Welcome.
Good choice going with a JCW as they are great.

We also recommend oil changes every 5k miles.

You have the N14 engine. I know a guy with over 220,000 miles on his but also know others that hate the day they ever saw that engine. Do thread searches here. Every 5,000 miles, regardless what MINI says.

Congrats. Highly recommend checking fluids weekly. Ninety seconds weekly worth of checking fluids may be a wallet saver in the future. Also if you don't have maintainance records, it might be prudent to eventually change all fluids to be on the safe side.

Yep, it's the N14. Good to hear of a success story, at least! I've heard of some issues with the engine, but here's hoping I don't have to deal with all that. The engine bay and underbody are immaculate, so I'm hoping good caretaking can help stave off some of those problems.

Good advice. I don't have records, and if every fluid didn't look like it had been changed within the last few weeks, I'd be replacing them all right now. As it is, I'll be changing them when I can get to it anyways.

Thanks! I don't want to go too crazy on it, I really enjoy the stock driveability. But there are probably some non-power related mods I'll get done at some point, I'd like to have a stereo head unit with some extra features (BT, Nav, etc), HID headlights would be nice, and maybe a few other things. As it is, it has an exhaust and some intake stuff (dunno if it's just silicone bends or something more), and I already love the suspension feel, otherwise, those would be first.
