Long time lurker, first time poster
Hello Everyone,
I've had an '05 R52s auto (I know, I know) for about three years now and have been lurking/repairing based on advice here, the whole time. Time to introduce myself as I will be posting an electrical question soon.
It is absolutely a love/hate relationship with "The Hound". She is Chili Red with white bonnet stripes, runs white wheels in the summer and black wheels for the winter. When running, it is a blast, but lately, many more days on jack stands than on the curves. When I get her running again, I will post some pics from the area. Perhaps it will help me get that loving feeling back, because right now......not so much.
Anyways, HELLO from Western Massachusetts!

Hello Rob, welcome aboard!
I feel your pain as I have had my share of garage time with past Mini's I've owned. Yet I still always manage to own one so there is defiantly some thing about these cars that makes it all worth it! Living in Colorado I have plenty of opportunity to drive on some nice twisty roads. It's what I consider the ultimate therapy and stress relief.
Fix em up yourself if you can, I know it can get pricy....honestly, I find great satisfaction in working on them when needed. I have to consider my ownership of a Mini as more of a hobby than a necessity to justify some of the cost at times.
Drive it like you stole it, fix it, mod it, and repeat.....

Welcome. What's wrong with the R52? Bad engine/ trans?

I do enjoy time tinkering with it, but with my "garage" being a parking lot, some days are better than others for work.
The aisin transmission has been an issue, but I have lived with the occasional jerky shifts for now. I believe my next step there is a valve body replacement to see if that clears things up. That is further down the list (based on expense) than other maintenance items.
At this moment, I have an ignition issue. Trying to narrow down if it is related to the starter, alternator, or ????. I have a thread on that too...

Sorry if I messed up that link.....

110,000 miles. I acquired her with 68,000 and first changed the trans fluid at around 80,000 (dropping the transmission pan and "full" change). I have done a few additional partial drain and fills since then. They seem to make a small difference for a couple of hundred miles, and then........a hard downshift or missed upshift.....she does not seem to be getting any worse, so I am not in a panic....
