Hello all, just wanted to take a moment and introduce myself. My name is Mike and I recently purchased a 2007 Mini Cooper S, and its been one of the most enjoyable cars Ive ever had. It was bought with the intention of keeping the mileage on my 2014 Wrangler Unlimited down, and its become my favorite vehicle to drive. It is becoming a project car but I dont mind, I enjoy tinkering with cars and this is actually my first European Car and my first Turbo Car. Before this I owned a Subaru XV Crosstrek (Never again) and my project was a 1993 Camaro Z28. It was fun and I had a blast with it, but I decided for my next vehicle I wanted to venture into something new and different. Everytime I get behind the wheel it puts a smile on my face, just the way it feels and handles on the road isnt like anything else Ive ever driven. I havent come up with a nickname although my friends already call it the bumblebee for obvious reasons.

Aside from all of the positives, it did come with drawbacks like most used cars do. It had an oil leak from the oil filter housing, and the dreaded 2885 error code with reduced engine power. The gaskets have been swapped and the leak has stopped however after many hours on the forums I finally found the problem my particular vehicle was having. On the exhaust side of the turbo my wastegate was pretty much broken, it wouldnt seal properly which was causing the error code to continually pop up. The picture below is not my personal turbo however this is to show you the component that was broken and needed replacement. This wastegate sits as it should, sealed, mine was loose and barely held together and would not seal properly, so new turbo! I was going to spring for an upgraded turbo but I didnt want to go too crazy with my build. Ive only had it for a couple weeks, so Im trying to pace my buying haha.

Looking forward to chatting with all of you and learning more about my new investment as well as updates on the build.
Welcome to the forum and congrats on your new purchase!
Unfortunately you will have issues when purchasing a new car, if you are looking for just a stock replacement, you can find them for a very decent cost from a local junk yard, new they are quite expensive, if you are going to go with an upgraded turbo, which can be tons of fun, take a look at what you want and choose the turbo that will suite your needs the best. If you have any questions feel free to ask me!
