Newbie Looking for a used Mini

Hey guys/gals I'm in the market for a used Mini- I've always wanted one but a drunk driver totalled my Chevy and I figure it is time to make the leap! I was wondering if any members on here could give me tips on what to look for, years to avoid etc....I'm looking especially for a Cooper S as they seem to have most of what I'm looking for...and here in Florida (maybe everywhere) auto trans are hard to come by- I'm not a great manual driver...tx in advance, guys!

Though there are always exceptions to any rule, the base Mini is considered more reliable than the S or JCW models.

Try to looks for a 2011+ MINI Cooper S or MINI Cooper ( NON S ) , more reliable and you get the updated interior and options. Auto trans in those models are easy to find, the older 2002-2008 MCS Gen 1 are a bit harder to find, stay away from the 2002-2008 Gen 2 MINI Cooper (non S ) with the CVT .

Since you are in FL , check tampa, orlando, and Miami. In Miami and surrounding you will find more automatics and some higher optioned MINIs most of the time.

Welcome to NAM! Sorry to hear about your misfortune, but glad to see you're alright. I've been in a pretty gnarly accident before and I'm always thankful I walked away from it. For a gen 1 Cooper S look for a 2005-2006. For a gen 2 R56 S look for anything 2011+ as those have the N18 engine and have less issues than the previous year N14 engine R56. If you're wanting to stick with gen 1, check out this buyers guide HERE. Lots of very good information about common problems and issues with each year. Good luck and let us know what you end up picking up.

If you want a driver's car, get a 1st gen R53. You will never look back. MINI's were made for a supercharger, not a turbo.

Yes, a pre purchase inspection is always a good idea. Be sure it's a qualified MINI shop as they will know what to look out for. It'll give you ease of mind that the MINI is in good working order. You can use this site HERE to help you find one near you. Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Yes, I would get it up on a rack/ lift and have it inspected. Might be good to run a scan with a MINI scan tool like this. IT can find stored codes. I would get it anyway since you are looking at getting a MINI. Helps down the road.

If you need anything else let me know. Bought multiple MINIs before. Own 2 right now.
