Getting another one

Hello everyone!
I've had two MINI's in the past three years, '13 Clubbie S (traded it in for an Abarth, worst decision ever!) and now have a '15 Cooper S Hatch, and now I'm looking at getting a 2008 Clubbie S with 106,000 miles (want something I can mod without worrying about my warranty being voided) and want to know ALL the problems I should be expecting with N14 engine since I've never had one and have read about Carbon Buildup and Timing Chain issues and around how much each problem is to fix.
Thanks!

I had an 07 MCS a few years ago. Timing chain and related parts was a $1300 repair. My ECU shorted out one winter day, cost me another $1300 and had me in a loaner all weekend. Had to be towed to the dealership.

Are there any mods I can do to the engine that might make it a little more reliable? Or anything I should do to the car as a precautionary measure?
