Hey everyone I am new to the forum and was interested in buying a 2002 Mini Cooper S JCW edition with 123,000 miles on the OD. The guy is asking for 7500$. I looked on KBB and the fair market range is 4-6,000$. Below is the add. Could someone give me some advice on what I should look for and what I should possibly pay for the car.

Steer clear! It says rebuilt title!

 

According to the guy NC made it to where the vehicle was altered because of adding the JCW parts? I checked the carfax and there were no accidents.

 

Sorry forgot to add what he added in his craigslist post:


"Car has not been wrecked since I owned it, you can look it up on car fax. But if you know the history of the John Cooper Works cars, in their first year 2002 any JCW car titled in the state of North Carolina was branded rebuilt Salvage title because of the, states strict title laws and the fact that at that time, unknown to John Cooper, because he would take the cars from the dealership and RetroFit the cars with the 205HP engines, partial Aluminum chassis, duel exhaust, the Body trim, suspension, tires, brakes, ReMap the computer and put the JCW tuned upgraded components on the cars."

 

He has driven it for 300 miles, its a salvaged title and he is really claiming to have 250hp. Its pretty enough but did you catch how there is only a tight pic of the motor....He says its a full jcw package yet, no jcw brakes...

Lol well thank you for the advice. If I am looking around for an 02 what would be a decent price to pay for one?

Yeah, I'd definitely say steer clear. Do some casual searching if really interested and I'm sure you'll find a good one you like that's less fishy.
