2007 R56 power steering problem after replace battery

I was awoken by a very upset friend this morning, She has a 2007 R56 non S. This morning she noticed her battery was dead, tried to jump it with no luck, replaced the battery and is now having power steering problems. I mentioned that the newer models use electric power steering. After much about an hour of searching the forum for an answer, I'm at a loss for words . Does anyone have an idea of what it could be.

Cheers
Nick

If pump is failing could be staying on & draining the battery. P/S pump my guess

The 2007 and on Minis don't have a pump, it's purely electric. If she has a convertible it's a different story as they had an electric pump until 2008. A minor point, all R56's are S's. ;-)

I had a Chevy HHR SS, if you jumped another car in the wrong manner it would blow the fuse that controlled your power steering (which was also electric). Did you check fuses?
