Deciding Between 2 Minis

I am ready to become a Mini owner!! I can't wait!!

I am deciding Between a 2008 Mini Cooper S Convertible Sidewalk Edition w/30K miles or a 2010 Cooper Base Convertible with 14K miles. Which would be a better overall car?? They were both checked at Mini dealers. The 2010 has warranty left until 7-14. The 2008 has warranty left until 1-14. Any insight would be appreciated. Thank you!!

did you drive them ?
what were your impressions?
did you notice the extra hp on the S ?
what are you looking for in a mini?
Are you planning on any mods?

Always go with power. that's just me. I had two regular minis, but always wanted more power. Now I have a JCW.

From what I've read only get the options you 'need'. Less problems. With that in mind see what comes with each vehicle. I vote for the S, unless it is strictly a city commuter. Regardless, get one and let's motor!

I would not buy a base model. I would not be happy with the less power. That's me. Others will disagree since a lot of base models are sold...

Welcome to NAM, bgklinker. Nice to have you with us. It looks like you have quite a decision to make in front of you. At least both are MINIs. I will agree with some here who say, test drive both, then make your decision.

Are you looking just for looks, comfort, speed, driving characteristics, or mpg on the MINI? If speed, go with the '08 MCS, but check the carfax if it had the timing chain done and any oil leaks. If its the '10 MC, look at any recalls done and if it drives solid like its supposed to.

I had an '08 MC, biggest pain the rear and now my '11 MCS has been a bit of a pain but not as bad as my '08.

Good luck and look forward to seeing your choice!

Well the 2008 convertible was still the older body style whereas the 2010 would be the new one so that might be a consideration too.

Like Rob asked, what are you looking for? I drive a base model daily and have a blast doing so! I would suggest getting a print out of the service history on each one. Amazing what I learned about mine that they would have never shared with me if I hadn't asked for it. Good luck!

read through the forums regarding engine issues. Also, depends on how you drive it. I just bought an opted for the S (a Clubman) but YMMV. The non-S supposedly has less issues than the s, if reliability is a factor.

I would go with the S, but I'm also a "car guy." If you aren't too keen on constantly keeping an eye and ear on the intricate mechanical bits of your car, the base Cooper might better suit your needs.

Go for the Sidewalk edition. They are unique especially if it has the lounge leather tannish color seats. I saw one and they are really neat.
