Hi everyone, lurked for a while but finally pulled the trigger on a 2013 Mini Roadster S this weekend (after canceling an order for a Porsche Boxster). I figured now that I finally own a mini I should stop lurking and at least join and say hi.

 

Congratulations on your new MINI. Since it's a 2013, I assume you bought a model in stock and have taken delivery.

A few of my friends suggested a Porsche Boxster or Mercedes SLK, but I chose the MINI Roadster with it's MGB appeal. Why did you decide against the Boxster?

I did get one off of the lot. I had planned on ordering a 2014 since the timing was going to work out to be about the same as the wait for the Boxster, but the dealer had a 2013 with nearly every option I wanted. They were willing to give me exactly what I wanted on my trade in and $3k off of sticker so I could not pass it up.

Honestly I loved the Boxster a lot, but the Porsche I really want is a 911 S so I made a deal with the wife, get her dream car now (the mini roadster) that I get to have fun with for a couple years, then get my dream car.

And for the roadster "feel" I can honestly say that the mini is more fun than the boxster at half (or more) the price of the boxster when all you really want is that top down roadster fun.

 

I'm impressed with your $3,000 discount from the factory sticker price. Because mine was an order and a 2014 model, MINI of Sterling gave me a much smaller discount. Not even close to your deal.

I've owned everything from BMW to Cadillac to a Hummer H3. But my favorite vehicle has always been an MG (I owned three). MINI Roadster S = MGB.

 

I was a little surprised at the discount. Helped that I had the same percentage discount on the Boxster in writing and had talked to a Nissan dealer about a 370z roadster the day before that was willing to match the Porsche offer. I figured I had an advantage in the negotiating but did not figure it would work out that well in my favor.

I came from a Mustang GT > Challenger SRT8 > Mini Roadster S... it may have the least amount of power but the Mini is already the most fun car I have ever owned yet.

Welcome to NAM and congrats on your new MINI. With a few miles of top down motoring, that Porsche Boxster will be just a memory. We'd love to see some pics of your Roadster. Happy motoring and don't forget to wave.

Oh I am already over the boxster, about 125 miles of driving yesterday solved that.

I have a picture in profile garage that's not very good, but I plan on posting a few once I have the stripes added. When my wife saw the car she said "we will take this one... if you add stripes" so I have an appointment later this week, hopefully by the weekend I will have proper pictures for NAM.

Oh and the wave... The worst thing about driving around all day yesterday was that I did not see another mini to wave to all day...

Very nice. I like the blue/black contrast. Makes the blue stand out sharply. Gotta love those Roadsters!

 

Yeah, the second I saw the blue I really liked it and with the black headlight housings it needed the stripes.
