Howdy
Howdy
I've had an itch for a Mini for some time, but haven't acted on the impulse. We normally keep two cars at the house (not counting the 10 year old TJ Jeep); something smaller for short hops and something larger for trips.
I normally run the errands, like to drive, and have a history of small, sporty stuff (two Sciroccos, a Honda CRX; we won't talk about the Opel Rally). My last two rides have been a Honda Fit and currently a Focus. Both of these vehicles had/have some good qualities, but I'd like something a little sportier.
So I'm on here looking for a little guidance; I may be interested in a used Min, and would like to know if some years are better than others.
Also, what is the actual performance level of the Min? It need not be like Colonel Stapp's rocket sled, but my bride's A4 Audi makes passing on secondary roads a breeze. What are the acceleration numbers for various models?
Finally, transmissions...I like a manual, but would consider an automatic so others in the house could drive it.
I don't expect answers to all the questions in response to this post; I'm just saying hello and hope to learn some things here.

Welcome. MINIs are great but need some love to maintain them.
IF you want performance get a MINI Cooper S/JCW as this is a supercharged 4 from 2002/2006. IMO Try to get a 2004/5/6 as they had fewer problems then the 1st 2 years.
Don't get a Cooper in an automatic IMO. It will not perform like your A4.
Here is some good reading material for you on the 2002/2006 R50/53

Next would be the R56S which is now a turbocharged model. IMO again stay away from the 2007/2008 models as these were the 1st years and had many bugs IMO.
Here is a great read on the differences between the R53 and R56

MINIs invoke emotions. You will know the right MINI when you feel your emotions coming alive. Good luck with whatever you decide and when you do get one post some pics.
