Hello! MINI-less in Nashville

Hi NAM!

I'm currently MINI-less, but I hope not for long. I've had old cars, mostly small (AH Sprites, BMW Isetta) and I love to do restoration/repair work. I'm looking to start a Father/Son project with my 13 year old, with the goal of producing a great, safe, cool car for him to drive in a couple of years. High performance is not necessary, nor really desired.

My current thought is that a MINI in need of engine and/or trans replacement would be a good candidate for this project, but I'm interested in this group's advice. I'm not talented or patient enough to do body/paint, but could handle most anything else.

Does anyone have advice on where to look for suitable (non-operative) MINIs? Difficult problems to avoid?

Wonderful thing to read not only because you're spending time with her but because you are giving her a skill that all drivers should be taught and yet many girls are just sent out with keys. I watch so many adult woman trapped because they we're never taught the basics. I spent my formative years at my dad's gas station pumping gas at 5 changing tires by 10 and by the time i had my license going out on road calls. My dad always said a woman she never be stranded and alone on the side of the road...Cant count the amount of times I've had to help stranded friends over the years...
Well done sir!

She enjoys it and I love watching her skills grow.

Welcome. I've got an 03 MCS with a rod knock that would make a good project, but it will need a bumper and hood on it too.
