New Mini
New Mini
Hello!
I took delivery on a new '13 Hardtop on New Years Eve. I've had to downsize from other brands (Porsche, BMW), but have always enjoyed the Mini vibe. I drove one of the first (BMW re-issue) Mini's released back in 2002 (liked it, but was wary of first year reliability) and almost bought a new S hardtop back in '07, but I'm happy to finally be an owner.
My car is a minimally equipped car, but it's a hoot to drive (as you all know).
First mod to come this week: Snow Tires! The car came equipped with summer only Continental Premium Contact 2's. Not the best on ice and snow patches here in WI.
More pics to come as the weather improves...

The last (and final) Porsche I owned was a 997 that leaked oil and had other issues that I grew impatient with. After 14 visits to the local dealerships in 6 months, I traded it off. I have air cooled 911's and went through three water cooled p-cars. I'll leave it at this: New Porsche is nothing like Old Porsche.
It's been 20+ years since I drove something with such a light curb weight. I grew up on small cars, so this new Mini is refreshing to drive. I should have skipped the expensive German car thing that I've been doing for the past few years and just snapped up a Mini years ago...

Congrats, Jay H! I really like the color. I just got my second MINI on Dec. 17th. It is a spice orange/black Cooper S with black sport stripes. My first MINI is a 2006 Cooper, chili red/white. Still have my first one but will be selling soon.
My car has all season tires and I am in Michigan. We had a significant snowfall the day after Christmas and the tires seemed to do fine. With the summer and snow tires you now have, you should be set with tires for a long time.
Have fun motoring in your new car!

Thanks to all for a such a warm welcome!
I'm enjoying this car quite a bit. It's the lowest horsepower car I've owned/driven since probably the late '80's, but what fun. Low weight is where it's at.
