Ordered Roadster S 3/19--gave deposit to dealer--and am still waiting for a production number almost 4 weeks later!! According to the MA, the Roadster is a "niche" car and that the dealer had a very limited allocation, which BTW was not what he told me before I gave him the deposit. Just curious to know if anyone else has had to wait this long. Thanks.
sounds weird to me. When I ordered, my MA knew when their allocation was, so the build date was pretty much right where we expected it. The order system (that I saw anyway - I'm up in Canada) had all of this information instantly available as I was sitting at the sales desk.
I don't know why the dealer doesn't want to close the deal as soon as possible though. Are there nearby competing dealers?
Give the sales manager a call to see what's up. Escalate it beyond the MA, but be respectful and polite.
Good luck.
Cheers,
Mark

Actually, I ordered mine March 12 it went into production March 17 the Roadster is complete and shipped already... So they must have other cars filling up the production slots at your dealer..
I'd like to think that your dealer could work a deal with another nearby dealership to trade allocation spots. It would be a little extra work to arrange transportation of the car(s) between dealers, but sometimes that's what you have to do to keep customers happy.
Your dealership has options, and it's unfortunate that they're keeping you in the dark. This would be much easier to take if they were communicating with you over the past few weeks. Regardless, they should be able to tell you, with reasonable certainty, when your order fits into their allocation schedule.
I don't see what additional complications the roadster adds to this. Maybe demand is overloading their suppliers, and your dealer's allocation spots tend to coincide with part shortages? I'd think that you would be put on a high priority back-order list if this were the case.

The dealer is MINi of Monmouth. The MA said all the right things after he initially, but incorrectly, thought he had a car he could build right away. He said that he'd work to swap a build with another dealer...even if that didn't pan out he said that "worst case scenario" the car would be delivered first week of May. I'm thinking that is not likely at this point.
To not even get a Production Number almost a month after placing the order doesn't sound right. Plus you figure it takes about a week to build the Mini, then a week to ship it, then another few days at the VDC, dealer prep, etc. and that first week of May date sounds more and more unlikely. Have you tried getting the sales manager involved? At my dealership my MA worked closely with him in getting my PN, adjusting my order before my Mini went into build phase (and this was after I had my PN, I made a couple of different changes to my build), and so forth.
BTW when I mentioned tongue-in-cheek ordering a vert or a Roadster they told me that the demand was going to be higher because it's top down season, which makes more sense to me than them being "niche" vehicles. Just 'sayin'.
