2012 Break In Period???

Hi Everybody!!

I am the proud owner of a brand new r56, and I have to clarify this with other owners.

The dealer told me that there is NO BREAK IN PERIOD with my new car. "drive it like you stole it" she said.... that can't be right... can it??

Now about oil changes... 15K mi? I understand that is becoming more and more common in recent years. but on a band new engine?? in Michigan where it's freezing one day and 60 outside the next?

What did your dealer tell you?

Thanks,
D

Keep it under 4500rpm and 100mph for the first 1200 miles. Obey the OBC for oil changes.

That's what my dealer told me on my '09 and '11.

my 2012 countryman s all4 OM says under 4500 rpm / under 100 mph for 1200 miles.

my OBC says 9000 miles til oil change (or 1 year)!?

are mini backing off the 15,000 mile oil change?

scott

ps 4500 rpm = 109 mph in 6th gear (or so i have heard (whistles))

I'm glad this thread is here - I'm about to pick up my mini and was wondering the same thing.

Yup, that's my philosophy. When all else fails read the owners manual.

I've broken in 3 different Mini's all according the owners manual and none of them uses oil. I change the oil twice a year rather than just once. I figure it can't hurt.

I changed my oil at 1k then every 5k. If you go the 15k route, make sure you check the oil often.

Thanks for all the advice. For some reason I never thought about the owners manual. Seems kinda dumb now that I just said that haha
