rear fog light question

Hi,

I just hit 1500 miles today!!! Let the fun only get funner

But my question is this: I have rear fog lights. The left one is has a solid red cover. The right one has a cover that has a clear middle and red surround. It doesn't turn on when the rear fogs are turned on but the left one does (the solid red cover one).

Is this normal? It's a 2012 JCW Cabrio (it came with the factory aero kit on it).

I haven't had a chance to call my MINI dealer but wanted to ask here first.

I still love the snot out of my cabrio. Seriosly this little red guy is so much fun to drive, too bad it's supposed to snow here this weekend!!!

That's what I thought but it seemed off; so the left one is the fog light and the right one is the reverse?

Is the right one supposed to light up (red) when the rear fogs are on?

Apparently the fog lamp is euro spec. I also have the aero kit. I was wondering the same thing, I thought I had a light out when the fog lamp was on. Have had a couple comments from my friends saying one of my brake lights were out. Apparently it draws more attention to you so people are able to see you on the road (I thought being in MINI would handle that one lol.) I guess it works.

The fog lamp is required in Europe but the asymmetric configuration has nothing to do with it. It is more a cost cutting measure. MINI didn't want to redesign lights especially for the aero kit, after they updated the 2011-2012 taillights.

Without the aero kit, the lights in the bumper have fogs on both sides and reverse on both sides. For the 2011-2012 aero kit bumper, they didn't redesign the lighting shape from the earlier years, and couldn't fit both lights into the same space. So they only put a fog on one side and reverse on the other, which makes it asymmetric and does look a bit odd. However, the asymmetric configuration is not unique or unusual. All Clubman taillights are asymmetric in the same way, and other manufacturers also do this as a cost cutting measure.

Exactly, the fog lamp is Euro spec.

And what do you mean by the clubman taillights are asymmetric? Sorry I don't understand exactly what you mean.

Reverse light only on one side, and the same position on the other side occupied by a fog light (like in the 2011 aerokit bumper).

As for "Euro spec", I wouldn't call it that because the actual lights are the same as US spec (just standard instead of optional). Euro spec would usually refer to something actually different from US spec, like wheel arch trim without marker lights.

Where can i find this set of rear fogs with the one clear and one red? Thinking of getting an aero kit for my 2011 and only find the two red fog lenses.
