New

Hello,

My name is Tim and I am new to this forum. I don't have a Mini yet but I've been considering the move. I have a friend who owns a Mini and he loves it, and I have a friend who owns a Mini and he hates it. I love the way they drive but I understand there are issues.

I am going to use this site to do some research to help me make this decision. I figure this would be a good place to learn a thing or two.

Good as place as any to start.
First, decide whether you'd like a 1st gen or 2nd gen. Both are good and both have issues just like most other cars.
Second, decide on whether you want a base Mini or S model. Base or Justa probably has fewer issues than the S because it doesn't have the turbo. Doesn't have the pip either.
The 07 2nd gen. probably has more issues although that's what I've got and I don't consider the issues I've had all that bad. I've also got the turbo.
Go into the Forums and check under 1st and 2nd Gen. issues. Should be able to find lots of info. Also, you'll get lots of positive and negative feedback on both models from all types of folks. Take it all with a grain of salt.
Lastly, test drive a 1st, 2nd, Justa, and S. That will definitely help you make a decision. Of course, year of car and your financial bases will also be a determining factor.
Welcome and good luck/hunting.

I found a bunch of great info here; if you're familiar with car forums you know that you'll see a lot of "my car had/had this issue, how can it / how was it resolved" posts versus "it's Tuesday, and my MINI is running great today".

Great resources and knowledge among all the post and posters here.

I started research in November...and ordered a MINI last weekend. :-)

Welcome and good luck. If the site scares you off from the MINI, be sure to go to the sites of other cars you are considering... You'll be back.

Thank you very much for your good advise and wishes.

Just to be a bit more clear, I'm looking at new or near new and definetly an "S". I want a new car warranty or the MiniNext program Warranty.

The one thing my MINI owning friends agree on is that I wouldn't be happy with a non-turbo car. I'm looking at the R55 and R56. I'm also looking at the JCW version of both cars.

I know that most of the problems seem to affect the turbo cars but I agree with my buddies... It has to be boosted!

Thanks again,

Tim
