New here. need help
Hi there, I have a 2011 John Cooper Works. I had bought a used hardtop a few years back and loved it so much, that I dreamed of getting JCW at some point.
So I went and got one! I love it!
But....tragedy struck today. This is my baby and it sits in the garage if I am not driving it. I currently have construction workers here replacing all my windows and new siding and new roof on my home. So I have some staging set up in front of my garage. last night we were to have a bit of snow and this car has never seen snow ( I have an suv to use in winter ). So I
Put it at my horse barn under an overhang where it is protected.
Long story short, a full sheet of plywood was taken by last nights wind and flipped onto my car!!!!!!!! Guess what? no Body damage, but I have one of my power fold mirrors broken off. I would love to hear from someone that this is simply a replacement that I can just remove, plug in and re-attach. I would hate to have to take my door appart!
I dont know where to post this, but maybe someone could help me with it? I need to fix my baby!

I've never had to replace one but I have taken my mirror covers off and replaced them with blackjack union covers. So, as I remember, you've got wiring to contend with and I'm pretty sure the inside door panel is going to have to come off.
Hang in there, someone will come to the rescue.
I didn't notice where you posted but try posting under 2nd Gen hatch talk. That seems to be a fairly general area.
Good luck.

I got it off the car
Well, I got the whole assembly off the car. if you fold the mirror inward, it exposes two allen head bolts. I did not have to fold anything as it was hanging there! I took them out and the whole assembly came off uncluding the rubber seal that contacts the paint of the door. Inside was two plugs to unplug and off it came. I may have to do some swapping of wires and the motor, and maybe the glass. I will see what comes with the mirror body. Nothing is really broken except the metal neck part inside. It looks to be white metal which explains why it broke so easily. White metal is soft.
I am working on ordering the parts with a mini dealer. I hope to have it back together pretty quick. My husband is surprised I am holding up so well with this car broken, but it is that time of year where I dont like to drive it anyway. Way too much for salt and chemicals on the road. I will drive my winter car, and my mini can stay inside and "heal" up
So I am really thankful to not have to tear the door apart. This car is way to new to start that kind of stuff. I got 5500 miles on it only
Wish me luck

All in all I'd say you had a nasty event. However, you were very lucky that no actual body damage was sustained. Replacing the mirror should be a piece of cake for someone that understands the process. If you are uncomfortable doing it, any body shop should be able to do it for you in short order. And yes, I agree, the internal door panel will need to come off--using a special tool so you don't break the clips. Good luck!
better yet!
I posted the good news last night, but maybe I did not post it correctly. I took the whole unit off last night. Two allen head bolts and under it was a simple plug to the harness. Unplugged it and the whole thing came off. It looks like I can just get a new one and plug it in and bolt it on. I may have to swap the glass and motor into the new unit, but nothing I cant handle sitting at the kitchen table some night. Strange, I dont usually let my husband drive this car ( believe me he has his own toys), because I dont want it scratched and then it gets damaged from me trying to protect it at the barn!!!!! carma?
It could have been worst. I will post when I get it all fixed in case this can help someone else.
