new guy on the block
new guy on the block
Just picked up this crazy 2002 MINI... it's got quite a few upgrades for which i have no idea what exactly the previous owners put in there. My first MINI. I'm a car newb.
That car is so damn fun to drive. what have I gotten myself in to?

Thank you for the welcome! I've already learned quite a bit from browsing through the forum, which has helped a lot as I try to figure out what exactly has been modified in the car.
It has passed through several owners and, unfortunately, all the information regarding the modifications that were done has been lost. The only clues I have are a Ralph Schomp dealership business card that I found in the glove compartment that has one of their techs name on it from back in the day, as well as the sales posting by the last owner (who also was going on info passed down from owner to owner before him). The posting included the following:
- Concourse winner
- Fully customized by head MINI mechanic at Colorado dealer.
- John Cooper Works
- Quicksilver Exhaust
- Hartge Supercharger upgrade
- Cobra Racing seat
Some of the items in the list obviously don't add up as there would be overlap with a JCW kit, if that were actually fully installed. I did call the dealership and they only had limited records from that time and, to be honest, I don't know how many of the modifications were done at the dealership vs. privately.
So far I've been able to visually confirm the following modifications: Quicksilver exhaust, Cobra seat, S&B intake. It also has a reduction pulley that I was roughly able to measure by using a wire. The outside diameter came to 52mm (+-1 to 2mm due to measuring inaccuracy) which, after looking through the forum to find stock sizes, equates to more than 19%...
Understanding that reduction pulleys over 19% are potentially risky to the engine without other modifications, I'd like to confirm if indeed it has an upgraded supercharger, ECU tune, etc. that typically would be required for a pulley of that size. Unfortunately, whomever performed the modifications must have hated stickers and labels as there are really none to be found that would indicate Hartge and/or Works parts, so I'm a bit stuck at this stage...
I've attached some additional photos, and would greatly appreciate any advice you may have as to how to confirm/verify ECU and supercharger modifications when historical data is absent.
Thanks!
