Congratulations on your new purchase. ENJOY!

I hear that a Cold Air Intake is a nice addition to an R53, but I'd go to the Modification section of Generation 1 MINI's to ask this question and do research.

If you are on a tight budget modding can be a frustrating activity. Watching the Classified section can save you some $$.

Good luck!

Welcome! Modding can be very expensive, but so satisfying. In addition to watching the classifieds here, there are some good deals on Ebay from time to time, sometimes brand new parts from authorized dealers. With a Mini, you'll have fun no matter what you do! Happy motoring!

For an R53, the first mod should always be a smaller Supercharger pulley.

Check out http://www.waymotorworks.com/wmw-pulley-package.html

Also a cold air intake, I recommend either Alta:http://www.altaperformance.com/produ...ld-Air-Intake-
or DDM: http://www.waymotorworks.com/ddm-int...per-s-r53.html

The Alta is the loudest, which is a beautiful sound. Sounds like Darth Vader mixed with a rabid Vacuum cleaner and a woman having a crisis(Top Gear, hehe.)

Also take a look at a One-Ball exhaust, if you want the stock system a bit louder:https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...clips-etc.html
Most shops charge like $50-75 to do this.

Those are definitely the cheapest mods with the biggest effects(The CAI and One ball won't provide a ton of power, but will provide a ton of awesome noise).

I did that and bought a used AFE intake off the classifieds for $60 ($250 new). This was important because the AFE is smog-exempt here in California. Not sure if you have those problems where you live, but something to think about before modding your car.

I agree here, since we just covered the CAI above. The one ball (cutting out the resonator and welding in a new pipe) should cost about $50 at any exhaust shop. Any more and they are ripping you. Exhaust note is a little louder, but you get a lot more burble.

I got my pulley/cold plugs/belt from Way but haven't installed them yet. That's about $200 and install (if you don't do it yourself) is quoted around $300-400 here.

I also highly HIGHLY suggest a minifini.com cupholder or two.

Welcome to the forum, don't worry about mods, you've got enough power to play with to start.
