Hello from Nebraska

Hello all, new to the forum here. I'm posting for my wife who is working on homework right now (online college courses). Anyway, we are a happily married couple in our late 30's, and we are looking at a 2007-08 MCS for the wife for a work car. She drives about 100 miles/day.

We found a 2008 MCS with 25K miles we can get for $14900. Should we jump on it? Seems like a good deal, and the carfax comes out clean. It's loaded, with the manual trans. This thing is an absolute HOOT to drive, just wondering if there anything specific we need to look for? The main reason for buying the car is to replace her 2001 Taurus with 204K miles with something that gets better mileage. Mid 30's is pretty damn good mpg.

Thoughts?
Thanks and hope to post again soon!
Patrick

I would check the Vin number at a local mini dealership as they would have a better maintenance log than carfax; plus its free!

Common known problems for the MCS:

Cold rattle start (definitely important to check this)
High pressure fuel pump
Runflats tires that only seem to last in the mid 10,000 range (might need to buy regular tires for a quieter and softer ride).

Overall those are the major concerns I would worry about for the R56 (MCS) series. Also, you can buy extended warranty at your local mini dealership for a price if you want to feel a little more secure in case of future events.

Options I would look for:
Upgrade sound system
Comfort Access
Heated Seats

Since you are from Nebraska than you might also be interested in the upcoming rally event that will be held in the Black Hills, SD!

You say it is a HOOT to drive. So, why is it still at the dealer's? If you are mainly focused on milage, that will soon change. People ask me what kind of milage I get with ours and I reply, "Who Cares ?". Go get it, start loving it and join C.O.R.N.

I am unfamiliar with the problems of the 2nd gen MINIs.

Anyway, stop by C.O.R.N. when you get a hold of a MINI.

You've received some good advice here. Good luck! We fully expect pics when you bring her home.
