Mini dilemma

I'm a new member and new to the Mini World, but not sure how I got addicted. These cars have crept into my soul. I am currently shopping for one now. I need some help on a dilemma. I have decided on a 2011 Cooper BRG/BlK roof and mirrors. I love the classic look of it and it is reasonable enough that I can include some "must have" options (chrome driving lights, checked flag side scuttles and some upgrades in the interior. I drive a base PT Cruiser now drive like a grandpa. My wife thinks I would want the pep of the S model, which is 3500 dollars more. But I seriously like the cute classic look of the Cooper rather than the sporty style. Is there something wrong with me that I actually prefer a cheaper model?

Not at all. If you have driven a base model you've experienced that it is plenty fast and quick in the corners. Put it in sport mode and have some additional fun. Mini geared the car perfectly so that you can enjoy accleration even with 118 horsepower (mines a 2008 with 6 speed manual). Add some wider tires like I did (205/55/15's) and really get a kick on the curvy roads. After all Mini advertises go kart handling not "faster than all others". Get the mods that you want with the money you saved. I have not been disappointed at all with my selection. Good luck.

There's nothing at all wrong with it. To each their own. If you haven't already, I wouldn't recommend test driving the MCS though. The power does kinda get to you!

Good luck and welcome to NAM.

If that's what you like, get it!

For me, the S was the only option.

Good luck, and...

I bought one!!!!! After much deliberation I went with the Cooper PW/PW roof/Moonroof/Cold Weather/Auto. It's a blank canvas right now but I plan on adding driving lights, checkerboard side scuttles and bonnet stripes to start. I am looking for clever ideas for bonnet stripes. I will probably go with the traditional ones unless someone has an interesting and not tacky idea. Is there another color other than black that will go well with PW.

That's great! Driving lights add a nice look to the bonnet, and they're great for picking out deer way down the road. Black bonnet stripes with PW is the classic combination, but you could always experiment with some other colors in photoshop and see how they look. I would stick with black, though, especially if you are doing the checkerboard side scuttles, as that will pick up the black/white theme as well. Happy motoring!

I do like the checkerboard scuttle look. Maybe I should have had Lyle do mine that way but with black and Chili Red checks... hmmm.

Nevertheless, CONGRATS!

Thanks. I'll post some pictures once I tranform the coop. Right now I don't even have floor mats. I'm not driving it until i get the official mini mats. Then I will get mats to cover the mats.
