To the OP: there are a ton of different options for you to consider. Hardtop or cabrio, or Clubman? "Justa" Cooper or S? Manual vs. automatic transmission. First or second gen car? I'd suggest you check Motoring File's first gen buyer's guide for info on the '02-'06 cars, and test drive at least a few different MINIs.
