Old Hot Rodder Buys Mini
Well,I just retired a month ago and bought my first Mini. It's an '09 MCS,laser blue,6 speed .It is a new car-for some reason occupied an elevated stand outside of the local Mini dealer for over a year.Only evidence of degradation was rust on the rotors.Still on break-in.Am impressed with the low-end grunt of the motor/turbo setup.Have had two turbocharged cars in the past, starting with a '63 Corvair Spyder in 1965.The other was an '86 Buick Grand National which I bought that year.
Love the Mini.Always wanted one since the mid to late '60s when there was a yearly hillclimb near the community where I grew up in Nova Scotia. The course was paved and very challenging.I particularly remember the off-camber "oxbow".A well-prepared classic Cooper S(ah-the smell of Av gas and castor oil) ran against well-prepared road racing Corvettes,Mustangs,Camaros-even a beautiful TVR Tuscan, and consistently beat them over the course by a huge margin.Only took another 40+ years for me to get one.Love the handling and the power will be pretty decent too with a few mods.I have an old '71 Buick GS street car with highway gears(3.08s) that runs a normally aspirated high 11 second quarter.Love acceleration. My brother, who has a killer quick C5 "Vette loves the Mini's impeccable road manners too.Really gratifying to see such an enthusiastic community of owners and vendors alike.Happy to be here on the site.At my age -happy to be anywhere -as the old saw goes!
Will try to attach a few pix.
Best regards to all,
Rod

Grats, and welcome to NAM! I'm sure the MINI is a different breed of cat from what you're used to, but it sounds like you already have an appreciation for the MINI's talents and what it's all about.
Enjoy your new wheels, and drive 'er in good health!

You bought a MINI
not to be confused with a Mini
you know how fussy people can get at car shows . . .
We Bi people are funny about the difference. I'm Bi-minual.

Ahh you can call it what ever you want. Tthere is a whole thread on names we have picked out for them....
Put seriously, as a rodder, you know that creating a "well prepared" vehicle is part of the fun. So surf away. Some people are posting serious horsepower gains by installing a few modifications.

Welcome, from another Hot Rodder, as you can tell from my screen name.

Thanks for the warm welcome.Glad to see some eclectic old Rodders on board who like going around corners as well as in a straight line.I must say that the MINI provides a pretty good tonic for whatever ails you.Now to get a little more power while keeping the warranty intact!
